It may take awhile, but I'm going to have to start a new blog. I worked for hours attempting to figure out why my blog is loading so slow. I resized many videos and made them smaller, and got rid of some stuff on the sidebar, but all to no avail. When I get the new blog set up, I'll post the new URL here and send out e-mails to those readers that I can. I don't know how long I'll be gone, because I'm also busy with planting and a lot of other mundane chores. *sigh* Such is life! LOL!

I really hate this, but one has to do what one has to do.

In the meantime, keep on trucking! (We Texas Rednecks say stuff like that.)

Good News Re: Cap-and-Trade and Other Stuff

I don't often recommend movies, but when I do it's because I find it to be truly exceptional and last night Walt and I watched one that fits into that category. "The Ultimate Gift" is outstanding. On the political front there's a bit of good news. The Senate Passes Republican Bid to Slow Cap-and-Trade. (I love political "good news". It's so rare!) From the link:

“Tonight an overwhelming majority of the U.S. Senate slammed the door on using the fast-track process to jam through a new national energy tax,” said Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, a Kentucky Republican. “This is good news for families, taxpayers, and job creators.”

On a personal note, we’re postponing the new truck I’ve been wanting because we’ve decided to put in a wind turbine instead. Because we use electricity for our house, our huge greenhouse and the trailer our hired hand lives in, our electric bill is really high, especially in the summer. It’s not too bad in the winter because of our fireplaces. We have ceiling fans in every room except the bathroom, but in Central Texas in the summer, ceiling fans don’t begin to cut it. I don’t know how the settlers ever made it, especially the women with all the heavy clothing they wore back then. The winds blow hot in the summer, at least in the daytime. They must have been miserable.

I wonder if they’ll still be making trucks by the time I get around to buying one? I sure hope so! When you haul lumber you need a truck, and we often purchase lumber and other large items for projects and repairs around here. We also need a truck to take produce to the market. How do the moonbats expect farmers to run farms without trucks? Is it possible they’re trying to do away with farms? I wonder where they think their food comes from!

In spite of all the BS going on in the news, try to have a wonderful weekend, friends. There are silver linings out there… somewhere.

Here's some information on Taepodong-2 missiles:

The article says "all existing descriptions, especially of the Taepodong-2, include some speculation and guesses", but if you scroll down to the sub-title "The Threat", the article says that "These missiles only make strategic sense if they are intended for a limited number of high leverage targets.
But the good news is that there's nothing to worry about. Obama has told North Korea not to launch and so what's the problem? Doesn't everyone do what Obama tells them to do?

I'm going to go pot some plants. It's one of the things I do that keeps me balanced... more or less. Perhaps we should replace all politicians with potted plants. At least they wouldn't be able to do any damage!

Houston’s Mayor Bill White Should Be Replaced

The above link is to a post I wrote on March 13 in which I sent a snail mail to the Mayor of Houston, Bill White, regarding an illegal alien cop killer in Houston and the mayor's ignoring of same and passing the buck to the Federal Government.

I promised I‘d post a response if I received one. The following is the response I received yesterday, in which he passes the buck to the Federal Government:

Thank you for your letter I recently received. I appreciate your writing to me, and I understand your concern.

I agree that the borders ought to be more secure and we need to do a better job of protecting our officers. However, cities cannot be the enforcement arm of the federal government. We have neither the manpower nor the resources.

The Houston Police Department has been cited as a model for cooperation with federal authorities on immigration issues. We cooperate fully with the Immigration and Customs Enforcement personnel and participate, for example, in raids on illegal gangs and human traffickers. Everyone who is arrested and booked into Houston jails is asked about their citizenship status. We have fingerprinted thousands of suspects and checked them through federal databases, and have turned over hundreds of criminal illegal aliens to ICE for deportation. ICE and other federal authorities have full access to our jails.

In addition I have personally lobbied the last two U.S. Secretaries of Homeland Security and other high federal officials to give federal agents the resources to get these people off our streets and secure our borders.

If all the above is true, why is it that in Houston “lawmakers were considering termination of a local policy that bars police from inquiring about immigration status or acting to detain suspected illegal aliens"?

I write a letter to the Mayor accusing him of passing the buck to the Feds regarding the shooting of Officer Salter by a drug dealer living in a $40,000 home with $50,000 worth of security on that home, and the good mayor responds with a letter passing the buck to the Feds.

Perhaps I’m being too harsh!

You Don't Have to be a Brain Surgeon to Understand What's Wrong With National Healthcare!

(I have noticed that my blog is loading quite slowly. It happened after I loaded the video at the top of this blog, so I’ve removed it to see whether it makes a difference or not.)

Approximately thirty years ago my step-mother died of cancer. It began in her Ovaries, but quickly spread. She lived for several years with it, but the medical expenses were so high that she and my father were going to lose their property in order to pay for the hospital bills. They didn’t have adequate insurance coverage. They could have had adequate insurance, but my father chose to spend his money on himself. No, he didn’t drink or gamble, but he went on long trips, always by himself, leaving my step-mother at home to work as an underwriter for an insurance company until she retired. She had some coverage, but it wasn’t nearly enough. My husband and I bought their property to save them from losing it, and they lived there until they passed on. My step-mother died first from the cancer, my father passed several years later.

I tell you this because even though they needed our help, I prefer that to what may have happened under a national healthcare system. My step-mother was at least able to get into the hospital for regular scheduled appointments. They didn’t make her wait for weeks or months in order to see a doctor. She had the best care they could give her, but unfortunately there wasn’t, and still isn’t, a cure for cancer.

It doesn’t take a brain surgeon to understand what will happen under a national healthcare system. Let’s say you are working for minimum wage as a waitress. You bust your butt being the best waitress you can be because most of your money comes from the tips that people leave you. Now let’s suppose that the government made a law that tips are no longer allowed. No matter how hard you work you aren’t going to make one cent more than minimum wage. Are you still going to be the best waitress you can be? Are you still going to get around to as many tables as you possibly can? Are you going to watch the people at those tables to see if they want more of anything? Of course you wont! Why is it people think doctors are going to be any different? Why should a doctor overload himself with patients if he’s going to get a check from the government regardless of how many patients he sees? Doctors are human too, ya know!

Please take the time to watch this video. If you still think that the government running our healthcare system is a good idea, then you may very well deserve to have it.

Shutting Detroit Down

Sorry for not posting for so long and for this not being much of a post (but the video is great!). I'm going to spend the weekend ignoring the news, ignoring the fact that our worst enemy has now become our own government, ignoring the fact that socialism is on the march, and concentrating on trying to keep my sanity.

Maybe next week I'll be in a better mood.

The following is going around in an e-mail and was sent to me by Sandy. It ties in quite well with a post I did in January 08 titled "Beware of the Pied Piper". We tried to warn, but people covered their ears. (Emphasis is mine)

And so it came to pass that employers, facing spiraling costs and ever-higher taxes, raised their prices and laid off workers. Others simply gave up and went out of business and the economy slowed even further. Then the Pied Piper said, “I am the Messiah and I’m here to save you! We’ll just print more money so everyone will have enough! But our foreign trading partners said, Wait a minute. Your dollar isn’t worth what it was. You’ll have to pay more.”
And the people said, “Wait a minute. That's not fair!”
And the world said, “Neither are these other, idiotic programs you’ve embraced. You’ve become a Socialist state and a second-rate power. Now you’ll play by our rules!”
And the people said, “What have we done?”
But it was too late.

Did Obama Hug You Last Night?

In this video of Obama on The Tonight Show, Professor Robert Thompson of Syracuse University says: “It’s almost like President Obama is giving us a little hug before we go to sleep tonight.” Oh Joy! Oh, can’t you feel the love? Can't you feel the compassion? Can't you feel how much this administration cares about you, the American taxpayer? No? Well, I'm just flabbergasted! Your president is hugging you before you go to bed at night and that makes all the bad stuff go away, right? I mean, who cares about your 401K when your president hugs you? Who cares that your children will be in debt and their standard of living will stink in comparison to ours because they'll have to pay off our gazillion dollar debts, hmmmm? I mean, for goodness sake, so you lost your job. Quit whining about it! Your president is hugging you!

I didn’t watch the show and I didn’t even watch the entire video that I linked to in the opening sentence of this post. I don’t know what Obama said or did on The Tonight Show and I don’t care. That a President of the United States believes it’s fitting to go on a comedy show during times like these proves to me that we have a president who does not honor the office that he holds. But of course that’s almost miniscule in comparison to the rest of the total BS that's taking place. Here’s a video I did watch. Glenn Beck aired it on his television show today. But in spite of plenty of evidence that proves otherwise, Obama blames the Bush administration for this entire mess.

Okay... enough politics. As I've repeatedly said, we're really busy here. We cleared that old woodpile today that was harboring the water moccasins. Our stock pond is completely dry so we knew it would be clear of water moccasins but we weren't so sure of rattlesnakes, so I stood by with my trusty shotgun while Walt and Willie got the wood out of there. In case you don't know what I'm talking about, I posted about it last year, with pictures: One Snake Down and Many More to Go!

I wish it were that easy to get the snakes out of Washington, D.C!

Now I'm off to help plant more tomatoes. I'll be pretty busy the rest of today and, as always, will visit as time allows.

I am sorry to inform you that I will not be able to pay taxes owed April 15, but all is not lost.

I have paid these taxes: accounts receivable tax, building permit tax, CDL tax, cigarette tax, corporate income tax, dog licence tax, federal income tax, unemployment tax, gasoline tax, hunting licence tax, fishing licence tax, waterfowl stamp tax, inheritance tax, inventory tax, liquor tax, luxury tax, medicare tax, city, school and county property tax (up 33 percent last 4 years), real estate tax, social security tax, road usage tax, toll road tax, state and city sales tax, recreational vehicle tax, state franchise tax, state unemployment tax, telephone federal excise tax, telephone federal state and local surcharge tax, telephone minimum usage surcharge tax, telephone state and local tax, utility tax, vehicle licence registration tax, capitol gains tax, lease severance tax, oil and gas assessment tax, Colorado property tax, Texas, Colorado, Wyoming, Oklahoma and New Mexico sales tax, and many more that I can't recall but I have run out of space and money.

This is getting way too close to home! Sorry to resort to a video but as my prior post tells you, I'm short on time. Besides, Glenn Beck does a far better job of ranting than I do:

Sir, This letter is being written in reference to the statement you made putting your responsibility of the illegal drug dealers off on the Federal Government in your response to the shooting of Officer Salter. I believe you need to be reminded that this is America and your first responsibility is to the legal citizens of Houston and not to put your job off on the federal government or worry about Hispanic votes! Legal Hispanics deserve protection just as much as anyone. Not protecting them won't garner you their votes. It's common sense, Mayor. What happened to yours? You will not win a senate seat if we Americans who still have values have anything to do with it!

It angers me beyond description that so many politicians like yourself put their personal career and wealth above the needs of the people who voted for you. I remind you that you work for the legal American citizens in Houston and are paid by the taxpaying citizens of Houston. You owe them to do your utmost to do your job to the best of your ability. To say that you have betrayed them is to put it very mildly. I sincerely hope that unless you change your agenda the citizens of Houston will not elect you to another term and that you don't get anywhere near a Senate seat. We have far to many traitors of the American people sitting smugly in Senate seats already!

There are some of you who read this who won't believe me, but I would have written the above letter if Mayor White had been a Republican. I'm sickened by crooked politicians and whether they are Democrats or Republicans doesn't matter. It is past time that we, the people, stand up against corruption regardless of what party it occurs in. Every crooked politician, regardless of party affiliation, betrays our trust, and I'm tired of being betrayed. Unless a miracle occurs it's going to be extremely difficult paying taxes in 2010!

I Know I'm Not Alone in my Frustration

I’m feeling frustrated and that’s an understatement! First of all, most of my frustration is directly due to what is happening to us, and by “us” I mean American Citizens who will go to jail if we don't pay our taxes. I’m not going to go into that in any detail. You who follow politics - and most of you do - know exactly what I’m talking about. There seems to be a plethora of politicians who don't feel it's necessary to pay their taxes. Then there's the Secular Progressives (ugh!), the crooked politicians on both sides of the aisle, the RHINO's, the PC crowd... okay, there's far too much to be frustrated over to list it all. I’m also feeling frustrated about what’s going on in Mexico, and if anyone reading this doesn’t know what I’m talking about, then I suggest you tune in to what’s going on around you… or perhaps I should say, to the south of you!

There's also frustration because I haven’t been able to keep up with this Blog or with visiting. I’m swamped with personal business and work. Yesterday I planted I don’t know how many tomato plants and set them in the greenhouse until time to transplant to the ground. That’s just the beginning. Oops. Wrong! The beginning was the onions and broccoli, but they’re already in the ground.

After the gardens there’s the house, the screen house, the pool to get back up to par, and the screen house needing to be cleaned. Possessions are work, folks… unless your filthy rich and can hire more than one person to do it all for you. I don’t think that would be any fun though. There’s something about doing a job and doing it well that gives me and my husband the satisfaction that money can’t buy.

I’ll visit as time allows, as always, but nowhere near as often as I used to. This blog seems to be going to the dogs!

Credit Card Fraud

This isn’t a political post, it’s a head’s up to those of you who use credit cards. One of my cards has had it’s number stolen, and I’m pretty sure I know how it happened. It wasn’t stolen from our trash because we have a shredder and shred everything. All the stores we purchase items from, with the exception of one, have it set up where my card never leaves my hand. I only hand my card off at one store, a gas station, and the clerk walks away to verify the card. From where I stand at the counter I can’t see what he, or she, is doing. There have been a couple of times where it’s taken the clerk much longer to process the card than usual. They also have a high turnover of employees.

I received a letter from the credit card company asking me to call them. This is a card I had a zero balance on because I haven’t used it in over three months. Suddenly there are charges showing up on it. Most of them for items purchased from France over the internet, but some of them are from local stores. All the charges are under $50, but it does add up. Fortunately the woman I talked to on the phone representing the company told me to tear up the card (I’ll shred it), and said the charges would be dropped. I have never purchased anything from France in my life.

The store I suspect has the least expensive gas in town. From now on I will only be paying in cash for my gas. Actually, I’ve been using cash or checks for the last three months because of all the credit card theft that is going on, but of course that doesn’t help with internet purchases, does it? With the economy going down the tube there is going to be more of this going on than ever, so I just thought to tell you what happened to me so that it doesn’t happen to you.

I'm Not Complaining

I sat here this morning with the intention of posting and then wondered what I should post about. It’s hard, because there’s so much to complain about but I don’t want to complain, so I won’t complain about the fact that Walt and I have lost money in 401K’s and the stock market and are retired. What good will complaining about it do? It’s a done deal, and as far as I can see is only going to get worse. I won’t complain about that either.

Neither will I complain about the fact that Obama is going to approve stem cell research, even though Adult stem cells could easily be used instead. But that’s beside the point. Why complain about what Obama has done or intends to do when it won’t do any good?

I also have decided not to complain about Obama having promised during his campaign that he would do away with earmarks. I’ll let Glenn Beck complain about it instead. Besides, he has a much larger audience than I do:

I won’t complain about the politicians, both Democrats and Republicans, who are asking for the earmarks, or about having to pay with my tax dollars for migrating loons in Nevada, trollies in Puerto Rico, a foot bridge in St. Louis, a Light House in Main, Sea Turtles in Hawaii, or Red Snappers in Florida.

...Oops! Almost forgot to not complain about Reid's railroad from Los Angeles to Las Vegas.

The price of meat in England has risen 30%, including pork. The price of “Pork” in the Porkulus Bill… never mind. I’m not complaining.

There’s so much to not complain about that I can’t cover it all. I guess I’ll just cover my eyes and ears and sing this song:

Update to My Last Post and Some Political Commentary

I finally have my computer back. It certainly took them long enough! They put it back to the same way it was when I first purchased it, but I have everything backed up with Carbonite, so that was no problem. I also have 125 new e-mails to go through! Please understand if you sent several e-mails and I don’t answer each and every one of them. I had every intention of getting on the internet long enough to let my friends and readers know I’m still alive, so I went to the library a couple of times to use one of their computers but gave it up because they were always occupied.

I found out during this internet blackout that I feel a lot better, both mentally and physically, when I don’t spend as much time focusing on politics and sitting at the pc. The first (politics) probably needs no explaining. Here’s where I could go into a long rant regarding what appears to be the far-left’s absolute determination to destroy capitalism, but all you have to do to find out how I feel about that is listen to Glenn Beck. He’s on Fox News every day at four central, just in case you don’t know. Walt and I are finally beginning to feel the financial pain of what the Obama administration has been doing. We’ve lost thousands in stock and expect to lose more. I don’t suppose I have to tell you that gas is already going back up in price and so is everything else. Disgusted? Me? You can say that again! Our daughter, who we put through college is working at Burger King and is lucky to even be able to get that job. What I’m feeling is far worse than simple disgust.

We will soon be working on the gardens again, and I’m busy restoring a family heirloom for a friend, and as it’s my intention anyway to limit my pc time because it’s beneficial for me to do so, I won’t be spending nearly as much time on the pc as before. I will visit as my time allows, but Dragon Lady’s Den isn’t going to be anywhere near as active as it once was.

I heard yesterday that the cost of electricity is going to become outrageous. I think it’s time Walt and I seriously considered putting in a windmill. We certainly live in the right place for it.

Now for a short story:

There’s a country road in front of our house and our closest neighbors lived down that road about a quarter of a mile. That’s the road we walk our dog Sweety down every day. The neighbors moved and rented out their house to Mexicans. I don’t know whether they were legal citizens or not, but I do know that there were eleven people living in that three bedroom, one bathroom house and when the weather allowed they would sit outside and party. Beer cans all over the yard and Mexican music. It sounded like we were living in Mexico. Their electricity got cut off so they asked us for some candles. Two days after that they were gone, without paying either the electric bill or the rent, of course. I know that because the owner of the house stopped by and told us they were gone, and they had left all the doors open. She changed the locks and locked them, but the people had evidently left some of their possessions there because the front door had been kicked in. I’m sure neither the electric bill or the rent will ever be paid because no one knows where they went. I guess they haven’t yet figured out they can buy a house with no money down and no credit and we taxpayers will pick up the bill. Or they can go to Florida and move into a really expensive house without paying anything at all. Socialism sucks! With Obama at the helm there's nowhere to go but down! I suppose this is what it feels like to be on a sinking ship.

I guess I’d better get to it. I have a lot of e-mail to go through and I'll be visiting as soon as possible.

OFF TO SEE THE PC DOCTOR

Hi! I'm Gayle's computer and when this post is finished I'm going to be sent to a computer hospital in a box, so I'll be absent from the world wide web until I recover. It's okay though because I need a rest and maybe Gayle can finally finish working on her taxes, although I don't know why she should bother when so many politicians don't. In 2010 it's going to be even harder, considering how much you people will be paying that you shouldn't have to be paying for. Being a computer I know all about what's going on and I have to tell you that I'm really happy I'm a computer and not a person! Texas Highway Sign Warns of British Invasion

A hacked electronic highway sign in northern Texas carried a warning not thought about in several centuries.

On Friday, the sign briefly flashed: "OMG The British R coming. They R watching you."

KCBD-TV reported the electronic sign was in a construction area in southwest Lubbock.

The Texas Department of Transportation said the mobile sign belongs to a contractor.

A statement from Austin Bridge & Road said someone "with a questionable sense of humor" accessed the password on the message board.

The company said the portable sign which was hacked has since been removed, after a permanent exit sign was installed.

Police had no word yet on the culprits.

Culprits? I hardly think they're culprits for trying to warn us, although they should have had the sign say "Britain is coming", because all the signs point to the fact that we are going to wind up just like Britain if things continue to go in the direction they have been heading. Whoever changed that sign knows what's going on. The only difference between them and Paul Revere is that he road through town on a horse. Now you know darn well if the person responsible for changing the sign had ridden through town on a horse shouting "The British are coming", he/she would have either been arrested or thrown into a psychiatric ward, or both. My question is whose the real culprit here? The person trying to warn us, or the people responsible for getting us into this mess?

The liens were outstanding for up to 16 years against his auto repair business. Solis listed the business on her House financial disclosure forms, as well as bank accounts totaling between a quarter-million and half-a million dollars.

Perhaps more damaging to her appointment, Solis appears to have violated several House ethics rules. The former California lawmaker failed to reveal on her financial disclosure forms that she was the treasurer and a member of the board of directors for an outside organization that was lobbying Congress in favor of card-check legislation that Ms. Solis was co-sponsoring in the House at the time.

You mean to tell me that the Obama administration has ethics standards? Who knew? How many Obama appointees have been caught not paying their taxes now? Four? Five? I can't keep up.

As I am getting ready to work on my taxes this really galls me. Why should any of us pay our taxes? Well, the IRS does come to mind, but evidently it's been falling down on the job lately, since some of these people have gotten away with not paying all of their taxes for years! Biden says paying higher taxes is patriotic. I suppose he means that it's patriotic for us to pay higher taxes, and since it's a "patriotic" thing to do, that explains those Democrats who don't pay their taxes, doesn't it?

I'm tempted to not pay mine, but I'm afraid I know what the results would be.

UPDATE RE: SICK COMPUTER (Wednesday, 2/4/09) Computer will be going to the HP hospital shortly. They'll be sending me a pre-paid box to mail it in. I should receive the box in two or three days. The title is from the e-mail I received today. Although I don't really have the time to be posting this, I found it too important to ignore. I was sent the e-mail by The American Family Association.

Obama to Pick Republican Senator Judd Gregg for Commerce

The New York Times is reporting that President Obama will pick New Hampshire Senator Judd Gregg as Secretary of Commerce as early as Monday:

"Senator Gregg is now the leading candidate for commerce and a pick that could come as early as Monday," a senior administration official said, speaking on condition of anonymity because a formal announcement had not been made.

Mr. Gregg's name has been circulated for several days as Mr. Obama tries to replace his previous nominee for commerce secretary, Gov. Bill Richardson of New Mexico, who withdrew amid revelations that a grand jury is investigating how he awarded state government contracts. Mr. Gregg himself said on Friday that he was under consideration.

Well, we'll soon see what Senator Gregg is made of, won't we? Will he take it, thus giving the Democrats a majority in the Senate? I suppose we'll just have to wait and see, but personally I think this obvious ploy to gain control of the Senate is so transparent any Republican true to conservative values would turn it down. Again and as usual, only time will tell!

The Three Little Pigs and the Wolf Join Forces

In "Whatever Happened to the Three Little Pigs", Smokey the Bear, the equivalent of the president of the forest, kicked the three little Pigs out of their beautiful brick house for lack of paying him back for the work that he and other bears did to obtain the bricks for the house, and moved his deadbeat relatives in. They found themselves terrified that the wolf would eat them, but happily the wolf was no longer interested in the three little pigs. This strange encounter happened the very same day the poor pigs were kicked out of their house:

Jumping up and down, the first little pig yelled, "OH NOOOOO! LOOK! THE WOLF!"

"It's over", said the third little pig, ever the realist. "We can't outrun him. We have nowhere to go anyway. Without our strong, brick house he can follow us anywhere."

"I DON'T WANT TO DIE!" screamed the second little pig. All the little pigs were shaking with fear, and although the first and second little pigs covered their eyes, the third little pig said "No one wants to die, but there's a time for everything... even dying." His eyes were wide open and, practically hypnotized, he stared at the approaching wolf.

The wolf wasn't creeping. The wolf wasn't sneaking. The wolf walked as if he didn't care that the pigs were even there. He walked as if he wasn't the least bit hungry! He strolled right up to the three little pigs and said, "Oh, knock it off! You don't interest me anymore."

The first and second little pigs, shaking so hard it's a wonder they could even stand up, uncovered their eyes and in unison stuttered, "h-h-h-hunh?"

Calmly, the third little pig asked, "Is this a trick?"

The wolf smiled and said, "Look here, you three. Do you think you're the only ones who were kicked out of your home? I got kicked out too! I had a nice, warm cave that I loved. It was small, but there was plenty of room for my needs, but I've been evicted. This is happening to all of the forest animals who had homes. If we want to stay alive we must join together. We may never get our homes back!"

"BUT YOU EAT PIGS!" yelled the first little pig.

"SHUT UP!" yelled the second little pig. "YOU DON'T WANT TO MAKE HIM MAD!"

The wolf just laughed and said, "I said can it! Get your wits about you! I do indeed eat pigs, but I'm not going to be eating pigs from my forest. All of us from this forest need to stick together and build a shelter. We have to forget all about life the way we used to know it and watch each others' backs. Look, I know I scared the tar out of you in the old days, but I only chased you because it was fun. I had a ball watching all of you build houses. The first and second houses were pathetic, but that third house was a doozie! But I never took food from my forest. This is my home! I always hunt in the neighboring woods."

The little pigs stopped shaking, and the first and second little pigs asked - almost in unison - "You mean you're not going to eat us?"

The third little pig said, "What you say makes sense, but excuse me if I'm a bit skeptical. You have caused us a lot of grief, you know."

So it came to pass that the three little pigs and the wolf didn't exactly make friends right off the bat, but at least there was a truce. Maybe it would last.

Several weeks passed and the three little pigs, the wolf, and many other earth bound creatures, having banded together, now had a shelter from the rain and the cold. Built from sticks, stones, and held together from mortar made from mud from the creek and sand from it's banks, they had a fairly cozy shelter. The third little pig supervised those mixing the mortar. After all, he had proven himself to be a master at it.

One day the third little pig decided to go see what the deadbeat bears had done to his brick house. He wanted to know if the place was still in tact. He knew he couldn't do anything about it if it wasn't, but he was curious, so he convinced his two brothers and the wolf to accompany him. When they reached the edge of the clearing where the house was, they crouched behind the shrubs surrounding it and watched.

"It's a horrible mess!" groaned the first little pig.

"The bricks are turning green!" said the second little pig.

The third little pig sighed sadly. "That's mildew. They aren't bothering to clean the walls. They're throwing trash all over the yard. I'm not surprised. Bears are very messy." The third little pig was sad to see what these trashy, deadbeat bears had done to his wonderful brick house and yard. "I just hate to think of what it must look like inside."

The Wolf said, "Stay here. I'll creep up to the window and peer inside." And he did.

When he returned he said, "It's not pretty."

"Shhhhhhh! I hear something," said the third little pig.

Silently, they watched as Smokey the bear approached the house. He opened the door without knocking, but he didn't go in. He was the tallest bear in the forest and the ceiling was too low. Standing on the porch he greeted one of his deadbeat cousins. The three little pigs and the wolf could easily hear him as he said, "I have something for you. I know you'll be pleased." (In case you missed the first part of this story, Smokey was the head of the forest creature's government. Just like the president of our government, only hairier.)

"What is it?" asked Smokey's cousin.

"Free honey. Jars and jars of free honey. Here's one jar. The rest are stacked over there by that huge cedar tree. It's part of my stimulus package."

"Stimulus package?" asked Smokey's cousin. "What's that?"

"Would you look a gift horse, uh, gift bear in the mouth? Just take the honey and be happy. I have my reasons."

"Dang!" whispered the first little pig. "They get free honey and they didn't do anything. They get our house and they didn't do anything! They get everything for free and they didn't do one single thing to earn it! Dang!"

"It's not fair!" Whined the second little pig.

"It's politics" said the Wolf.

"You bet it is," whispered the third little pig. "If the owl was in charge like he used to be because he's the wisest creature in the forest, we wouldn't have to be putting up with this! Things weren't perfect, but they were a lot better than this! That #%&#! bear is ruining everything! The old system is totally destroyed!"

"We used to share when we had more than we could use," said the third little pig. "Now we barely have enough to get by ourselves."

"It's not fair!" whined the first and second little pigs.

"No it isn't" said the wolf, "but there is an upside. Now that we're homeless we can go on what Smokey calls 'welfare'. You haven't done as much snooping as I have. Smokey is putting up signs on some of the trees that we homeless creatures can apply for free handouts."

"Oh, goody!" said the second little pig, "that'll help a lot!"

"Yeah," said the first little pig, "We won't have to scrounge for food as much."

"No," said the third little pig, "Not for me. I don't take handouts, and I don't want anything from that... that... that... conniving bear!"

"Right you are" said the wolf. "I see what you mean. If we take his free handouts then sooner or later he'll want something from us. He'll have us in his pocket!"

"Exactly", said the third little pig. "I'd rather starve!"

"We wouldn't!" said the first little pig, speaking for himself and the second little pig. "We want a nice house to live in too. Now that we're homeless, maybe Smokey will give us one."

"If you do that, you're no longer brothers of mine!" said the third little pig. "I'll disown you!"

"But the shiftless, no good bears who never did anything in their lives but make a mess have our house and all the free honey they can eat!" said the second little pig.

"Yes, but we have something far more important than that", said the third little pig.

"What's that?" asked the first and second little pigs.

"Our self-respect", said the Wolf. "It's one thing Smokey can never take away from us."

"Amen", said the third little pig.

So the wolf and the three little pigs sadly returned to their shelter, where they decided to watch and wait to see what happens, just like you'll have to do if I decide to continue on with this nonsense. Whether I do or not depends on many things. I'm watching and waiting to see what happens.

What Would You Do?

UPDATE: I'm going to reword the question that I originally wrote and some of you already answered. It's because I didn't really make myself clear in the first question I asked on this post, so here goes:

Let's pretend (and pray we will only have to pretend) that we go into another severe depression and everything fails. What would you do if you lost all of your income, including your savings? What would you do? Where would you live if you ultimately lost your house or the home you are renting, and if you invest, you lost all of your investments, and all of your relatives and friends, everyone you know, was in the same boat?

For the last two days it's been warm enough to walk around without a coat and today we have ice on the trees and probably the overpasses too. That's Texas weather for you. When it gets cold enough to snow we get ice instead. I'm not complaining though. At least we have weather. I just hope everyone driving around here this morning will be very careful.

I may be posting again by this weekend, but there's a lot on my plate right now so this post will be my last until hopefully this weekend. In the meantime I have a question for you.What would you do if suddenly you lost all of your monetary value? Lets say that, regardless of your circumstances, you lost all of your income, including your savings. What would you do? Where would you live if you ultimately lost your house or the home you are renting, and if you invest, you lost all of your investments?

I'm going to be interested in the answers.

President Bush was busy trying to protect us after radical Muslims destroyed the Twin Towers and killed off 3,000 innocent civilians. I guess he wasn't in the mood to tell them that "We aren't your enemy."

Note to Obama: They don't care! We aren't Islam and their agenda is to kill off everyone who doesn't convert to Islam. Gads, this is so infuriatingly frustrating! They will stop trying to do us in when pigs fly.

Our Taxes Will Now Pay for Abortions Abroad... Again!

WASHINGTON - As he promised during the election campaign, Barack Obama on Friday struck down a ban against taxpayer funded abortions abroad.

Obama's move was warmly welcomed by liberal groups and denounced by defenders of unborn children. But wait a minute! Aren't liberals supposed to be for the weak and defenseless? Ha!

The ban has been a political football between Democratic and Republican administrations since GOP President Ronald Reagan first adopted it 1984. Democrat Bill Clinton ended the ban in 1993, but Republican George W. Bush re-instituted it in 2001 as one of his first acts in office.

"For too long, international family planning assistance has been used as a political wedge issue, the subject of a back and forth debate that has served only to divide us," Obama said in a statement released by the White House. "I have no desire to continue this stale and fruitless debate." Translation: I'm going to help people kill the unborn and there will be no more talking about it!

"In the coming weeks, my administration will initiate a fresh conversation on family planning, working to find areas of common ground to best meet the needs of women and families at home and around the world," the president said. I thought he said there would be no more discussions on this subject.

Obama issued the presidential memorandum rescinding the Bush policy without coverage by the media, late Friday afternoon.

I find it interesting that President Obama signed this bill without media coverage. I wonder if he understands that Babies know language in the womb! For instance does he know that:

They have astonishing powers of memory, facial recognition speeds not far short of adults and the ability to 'see through' magicians, research shows.

Within four days of birth, babies can distinguish between the language used by their mother and foreign tongues, psychology lecturer Dr Todd Bailey said yesterday.

Experiments show that a baby sucks harder and faster while feeding when its attention is captivated, he told the British Association's annual festival of science in London.

When the baby hears a woman speaking its mother's language, its attention is first kept and then wanes. But when the same woman starts speaking in another language the baby's interest is caught once again, he said.

'We think that the baby hears the sound of the mother's voice in the womb, even though it is heavily filtered, and takes in the speech rhythms of the mother tongue, especially during the last five months of gestation,' said Dr Bailey, of Cardiff University.

'When the baby hears a different language he or she finds it more interesting and we can tell this by the change in sucking.'

Unfortunately for the most part I waste my time and energy. Nothing I can say or do will change the minds of those who believe it's okay to kill innocent babies. Pro abortionists deny that babies in the womb are even human, which of course makes it easier to kill them, and Partial Birth Abortion is a cruel procedure beyond my ability to describe it, so I'll let an on-line health encyclopedia do it for me. Bold is mine:

Intact D&X, or partial birth abortion first involves administration of medications to cause the cervix to dilate, usually over the course of several days. Next, the physician rotates the fetus to a footling breech position. The body of the fetus is then drawn out of the uterus feet first, until only the head remains inside the uterus. Then, the physician uses an instrument to puncture the base of the skull, which collapses the fetal head. Typically, the contents of the fetal head are then partially suctioned out, which results in the death of the fetus and reduces the size of the fetal head enough to allow it to pass through the cervix. The dead and otherwise intact fetus is then removed from the woman's body.

Compassionate, isn't it? This procedure is so vile it pains my brain to even think about it, but the pro-abortionists have no problem with any of this. I'm going to be taking a hiatus from the internet at the beginning of February to itemize the farm and rental books in order to pay my taxes. Because I know where some of my money is going to wind up it's going to be a painful procedure this year. If it weren't for my husband who would miss me I think I'd just skip it and protest by going to jail!

Whatever Happened to the Three Little Pigs?

The three little pigs were sitting around their fireplace in their nice brick home they had built during the bad time with the big, bad wolf and congratulating themselves on how clever the third little pig was to think of using bricks to build such a fine home. It was cold and miserable outside, but if you were outside looking through the window you would think it was a beautiful and cozy postcard.

The first little pig said, “It’s so wonderful to have this big, strong house. We’ll be safe here all of our lives!”

The second little pig said, “Yes we will! Nothing can harm us ever again. We are as safe as safe can be!”

The third little pig said, “Well, maybe we’re safe from the wolf, but that doesn’t really mean we’re safe from everything.”

“Oh, pooh!” Said the first little pig.

“Winnie isn’t here,” said the second little pig.

“I think he means he doesn’t believe me” explained the third little pig.

“Oh,” said the second little pig.

“What can harm us?” asked the first little pig. “I mean, we can’t burn down ‘cause bricks don’t burn. The wolf can’t get in. The house is built like a rock, big and strong and indestructible.”

“There are all kinds of harm,” said the third little pig.

“Your such a pessi… pessi… pessi…” stammered the second little pig.

“PESSIMIST!” shouted the first little pig.

“That too!” said the second little pig. “What in the world could go wrong?”

Suddenly there was a loud knock at the door . The timing rather stunned them so they just sat there staring apprehensively at the door.

The knocking grew louder and more persistent.

At last the third little pig stood up and walked to the door.

“Don’t open it!” shouted the first and second little pigs.

“I won’t know who it is unless I open it,” said the third little pig, who wasn’t really a pessimist but was indeed a realist. He opened the door.

Towering in the doorway and in fact lowering his head so he wouldn’t bump it, stood a very intimidating brown bear, but the little pigs weren't scared now because they knew it was Smoky the bear and he didn’t go around hurting people. He didn’t even hurt little pigs! He was in charge of the forest and was the closest thing the forest animals had to a government.

“Oh, it’s you,” said the third little pig. “C’mon in. Just keep your head down.”

“No”, said Smoky. “This isn’t a social call. I came to collect.”

“Collect what?” asked the third little pig.

“Collect the loan I gave you that you were able to buy the bricks with to build this fine home” said Smoky.

“Hunh?” The third little pig didn’t know what Smoky was talking about.

“Your brothers,” said the second little pig, "asked us to help them get the money for the bricks you built this house with. “Uh,” repeated the third little pig. “I didn’t know anything about that. They told me you had given them money for the bricks!”

“Gave them money? Why would I have money? I’m a bear!”

“Dunno,” answered the third little pig. I guess I didn’t give it much thought. I was rather in a hurry, you know.”

“Well, that’s not my problem, is it? Your brothers were given plenty of time to pay us bears back for the work we did to get you the bricks. I've been far too patient already. I have some lazy, deadbeat relatives that need a place to live, and if you can’t pay me back, you will just have to move out and let them move in.”

“But, but, but they didn’t do anything to deserve to live here,” stammered the first little pig.

“Maybe not, but everyone needs a place to live,” answered the bear, “even lazy, deadbeat relatives. Besides, your lazy, deadbeat brothers have been living here, haven't they?”

“But what about the wolf? If we move out we’ll be eaten by the big, bad wolf!”

“There are worse things,” said the bear.

“Like what? What could be worse than getting eaten by a wolf?”

“Probably being eaten by a bunch of lazy, deadbeat bears,” answered Smoky. “You should go pack. Time’s up!”

House GOP Leader John Boehner (R-Ohio) said: "You know, I'm concerned about the size of the package." ($825 billion) "And I'm concerned about some of the spending that's in there. How can you spend hundreds of millions on contraceptives? How does that stimulate the ecomy?"

Concerned? CONCERNED??? I'm infuriated! Besides, in reference to contraceptives, I doubt it's the economy that's going to be "stimulated"! GADS! Are these people nuts? Nevermind.

Incidentally, Planned Parenthood requests a bailout!

The Abortion Bailout Package:

- $1 BILLION dollars in taxpayer funding for International Abortion Groups
- $700 million in taxpayer funding for “Title X” Health Clinics (aka your local Planned Parenthood affiliate)
- $65 million for the UNFPA, an international aid organization connected to coercive abortion as part of China’s coercive one-child policy
- Repeal the Hyde Amendment – Vastly expanding federal taxpayer funding for abortions
- Include Abortion coverage in any taxpayer-subsidized national health care program
- Expand taxpayer-funded abortions on military bases

And Freddie Mac also want's another huge piece of the bailout pie - $30 billion to $35 billion.

So where's our bailout? It seems it's here. Government grants don't have to be paid back, ya know! The site says "No credit checks, no collaterals and no co-signers. You can apply if you have bad credit or bankruptcy. You do not have to repay anything to the government."

Isn't that terrific? Sheesh!

"Midnight Regulations" is the term used for changes made by a sitting President right before his successor's inaguration.

The following is from Fox News: "Obama Faces Hurdles in Reversing Bush Regulations"

Peter Hitchens has an editorial titled: The Night We Waved Goodbye to America... Our Last Best Hope on Earth. I received the article in an e-mail from Spitfire, a personal friend, but had already read it on the web. I found it depressing, but I couldn't help but agree with it. Still, I don't want to be judgmental until I find out what Obama does, although I know his first command as POTUS has been to delay the Gitmo trials for 120 days. A verbal order, no less. I don't pretend to know why he decided to delay the trials so I'll not squawk... yet. I'm still in waiting.

I do hope my readers will take the time to read the Hitchen's article though. I'd like your thoughts on it.

I told you yesterday that I didn't watch the inauguration and I didn't. I went shopping. Walt watched it and I've been observing him closely for signs of brain damage or depression. So far he seems to have survived okay. God love the man! He's tough!

Sooner or later I'll get around to watching the Inauguration from videos on You Tube. In the meantime I keep reminding myself who is really in charge and humming the song "Que Sera, Sera":

The Institute for Liberty, a conservative think tank, estimated recently that the millions of people coming to the inauguration will generate a half-billion pounds of carbon dioxide -- 260 million pounds from the 600 private jets that will come to Washington, and another 260 million pounds from personal vehicles.

It says the pollution amounts to more than 575 million pounds of CO2, which would take the average U.S. household 57,598 years to produce.

The institute did not say how it derived its figures, which are debatable. But the bottom line is undeniable: the more people who fly or drive to Washington for the inauguration, the more fuel that is consumed and the more emissions that are dispersed.

"You can't on the one hand lecture about emitting CO2 and believe it's a problem, and on the other hand create such vast amounts of CO2 almost needlessly," said IFL president Andrew Langer. He said the anticipated celebrity odyssey to the nation's capital exposes the hypocrisy of Hollywood's environmentalist crowd and negates the "green" message of the inauguration.

What the Institute for Liberty is forgetting is that the environmentalists don't do what they want us to do. There motto should be "do as I say, not as I do." Washington DC is going to be a total mess after this inauguration and for those living there and in Virginia, on the day of the inauguration it will be nearly impossible to go anywhere, including to work. The Crawford Ranch

There are many wonderful posts on the internet this week honoring President Bush. It's a week long marathon of people thanking him for many different things. I didn't join the marathon because I am truly busy and don't have time to do a post every day this week, but I will put in my two cents on this post.

When I first began blogging I had no idea of the absolute hatred for this good man that is out there. Some on the left don't simply disagree with his ideas, some don't simply dislike him, they actually hate him. I found myself shocked that people could hate someone they really didn't know anything about. They have called him Hitler and other vile things I'll not repeat here! Disgusted, I nearly decided to quit blogging, but in the end it was the very thing that kept me at it.

President Bush will soon be coming home to Texas, and I'm not only thanking him for what he has done in keeping us safe, showing us that he truly is a man of compassion, and not being afraid to mention God - but as Texas is my adopted home state - I'm also welcoming him home.

Congress Has Gone Mad - But We Knew That!

I think that Congress - who is planning on putting this law in place next month - has already suffered brain damage from something. Whether it's lead poisoning or not, I don't know, but there is definitely something wrong with their thought process. This is complete and utter overkill!

Is it possible that Congress has just inadvertently turned millions of children’s books into contraband? At the moment, anything seems possible with regard to the sprawling, 62-page Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act (CPSIA), passed this past August with overwhelming margins in both the House (424-1) and the Senate (89-3).

The following is an e-mail from a personal friend, Spitfire, who often comments here (bold is mine):

I don't know if you know about this law that is due to take effect on 10 Feb 09. It's called the CPSIA (Consumer Product Safety Initiative Act) and was written to stop the lead in children's toys imported from China last year. But they wrote the law so that it includes: books, CDs, clothes, toys, jewelry and several other things for children age 12 and younger. It will ban the sale, resale, even gifting of such products unless tested (at a cost of $400 per item and up) for lead and phalates. It was also made retroactive so libraries will not be allowed to have books for kids on their shelves!!!! Now, how ridiculous is that?!?!? Please check out the following links and contact your congressional folks to correct this over correction to a simple problem. (The last I read about this, it's most likely going to cost the economy over 72 Million dollars of revenue daily!!

You can also call and write your senators and ask them to consider the enormous implications of this law as it stands and have exemptions put in place for books, clothing and other items that obviously do not contain any or hardly any of these substances. Please help spread the word about this so Congress is forced into doing something to correct their over zealousness.

I have to ask this, although the answer is obvious: Are these people certifiably insane or what? I feel the need to explain something.

This is a CATfish:

Down here in Texas and in most of the South we eat a lot of Catfish. Just because it has "Cat" in it's name doesn't prevent it from being a popular food. In fact, there are tons of restaurants specializing in Catfish. We are smart enough to know that they are actually fish and have nothing to do with cats. Duh!

In addition, and just for the enlightenment of such nitwits, we also eat something we call "Hush PUPPIES"! They are deep fried in oil and made out of flour and cornmeal. Here's what Hush Puppies looks like: Personally I don't like Hush Puppies, but it hasn't anything to do with their name. I simply don't like deep fried flour and cornmeal balls.

So you see, PETA, you can call fish whatever you want, but we southerners will continue to eat fish because we know that they are still fish! Most people who are able to actually think with something called a "brain" will eat fish because they love the taste of fish and an added benefit is that fish is good for you.

Maybe I should also explain to PETA that all fish do not come from the sea. What do they plan on calling freshwater fish? River Kittens? LOL! Oops! Perhaps I shouldn't be giving them any ideas.

Considering that fish has been proven to help the human brain, I suggest that PETA people start eating fish.

I'll be away much of today on my monthly shopping trip. Fish is on my shopping list.

I've been searching for good news to post, folks. Couldn't find any. There seems to be nothing but gloom and doom out there, so I decided to just babble. I'm not going to print the depressing headlines today. I'm in too much of an upbeat mood.

A Christmas Fire

(NOTE: First, for those of you who read the last post, there's a link correction there to the new conservative Hollywood website. The one I posted was wrong.)

Two days before Christmas I received an e-mail from a lady who rents from us in Nevada. The e-mail went something like this:

Subject: Bad News
The trailer burned down. You can reach me at (phone number).

She signed it with love as she is also a friend. She's also not long on words! LOL! Of course I called her right away.

Before we get to what happened, let me explain that the trailer was on five acres of property outside of Yerington, Nevada. My parents lived there for approximately ten years before they died. There was 20 years difference between my step-mother and my father but even though my step-mother was much younger, she died first of cancer. My father passed not too long after that. Before either of them passed we took over their payments on the property and trailer so they could remain there for life, because they couldn't afford to keep up the payments with the hospital bills. Neither of them had any savings or income other than social security and a small pension.

Okay, now you have some of the background. The lady who was renting had lived there for several years and was an ideal renter. She took good care of the property and had beautiful gardens. That's not easy to accomplish in that part of Nevada. We e-mail each other regularly and consider each other friends. She went to Carson City with a friend on the day of the fire, so she didn't know how it started, and it seems the Fire Department couldn't figure it out either. They didn't take long to get there after a neighbor across the road called them, but it went up too fast and by the time they put it out it was, as my renter described it, "a black hole."

So of course we called the Insurance Company who sent an assessor out.

Now for the weird part: I spoke to the assessor on the phone who asked for the number of the fire department and the number of the friend where the renter was staying. I gave him the numbers but wondered why he couldn't get the number of the fire department since he lives there and I'm in Texas! I'm still waiting for the insurance company to get back to me. This morning I found out through another e-mail from the renter that the assessor contacted her the day before New Year's Eve and told her that the trailor was totalled!

She knew the trailer was totalled. She said it was a "black hole." The fire destroyed the trailer and everything in it. I knew it was totalled because she told me it was. She lost everything she had. She did not hold the insurance on the property but she got a phone call from the assessor and I've heard nothing whatsoever from them. Bureaucrats! Are they all incompetent? Nevermind... it's a silly question.

I'll have to spend time today contacting the insurance company and try to find out why they haven't contacted me and what is going on.

Incidentally, the renter is a very upbeat person. She said she was fine and didn't know how many friends she had until this happened. She loved living there though, and because she is more than just a renter and a valued friend, we will replace the trailer so she can get back onto the property. It's either that or sell the property out from under her and I haven't the heart to do that. No, I'm not being all that generous. Selling the property would require I go to Nevada and I don't want to do that. In fact, I'm doing everything in my power to avoid it!

We also own property in Oklahoma that I wish we could rid ourselves of. It's a two-story house on a lot in Lawton, Oklahoma. We've had nothing but trouble with renters there. It's paid for and we would sell it, but we all know what happened to the housing market. I'm not really complaining though. I'm very fortunate and I feel for my friend. I can't imagine losing everything to a fire. But she has her life and that's all that counts.

Computer Problems Take Up too Much Time!

UPDATE: It took nearly seven hours to get the printer working right, but it has finally been accomplished. I was lucky enough to get ahold of a tech at Lexmark who knew his stuff and didn't even have an accent. Nice coincidence... his name was Christian. LOL! Anyway, it's working properly now but I'm not sure I am. I'm pooped!

I'm working a software problem (or trying to) and will be absent from the blogosphere until I get this problem solved or find someone to solve it for me.

I bought a new Lexmark X5340 Printer and am running a HP Pavilion pc and Windows Vista. The printer will print documents and scan pictures or documents. What it won't do is print pictures from Windows Photo Gallery. Having done some web research I find this to be a common problem. I've tried all the recommended instructions for such a problem. Unplug the USB cord and plug it back in, restart my computer, etc. None of it works. I even uninstalled the new printer and re-installed it. No deal! I would try checking to see if my Firewall is blocking it, except Windows Vista has a "Firewall with advanced security" and it's so secure I can't get into it!

Anyhoo, I called Lexmark and for a fee of $120 they will fix the problem. Ha! After I described the problem the conversation went like this:

Technician: "I feex problem for you. What credit card you use?"

Me: "Credit card? Why do I need a credit card? The printer is brand new and under warranty."

Technician: "Is not printer problem. Is computer problem. You have software corrupted. For $120 dollars we feex all problems for year."

Me: "Please hold on for a minute". (It's always fun to put them on hold for a change!)

Techician: "I hold."

Me, after discussing this with Mr. Dragon Lady, who was not frustrated like I was and thus able to think more clearly: "No, I don't want to do that. The printer is under warranty, the computer is still under warranty, so I'll get in touch with the HP people and see what they can do, since you say it's a computer problem."

Technician: "Is okay. Is there anything else I help you with today?"

Me: "What? How have you helped me?"

Technician: "I have to say that."

Me: "Okay. Goodbye." Sheesh!

Anyhoo, I'm off to call Hewlett Packard. Or maybe I'll just do their web chat help option so I don't have to try to decipher the accent. It's takes longer but is less frustrating. Wish me luck!

I've often said if I had children who were young enough to be in K through 12 grades, I would do everything in my power to keep them out of the public school system. The video I've posted below does a good job of explaining why. I know several people who have chosen to homeschool, and I congratulate them on having made that choice. I will pray for this effort by The Call to Dunkirk initiative to be a great success!

Ye Old Roman Cure for Your New Year's Hangover

Recipe for this really old-time hangover cure of the Romans comes from here. If you screwed up and drank to much and are looking for an easy way to cure your hangover, the Romans had just the thing. I publish this with apologies to all canaries everywhere:

Contents:

Fried Canary
1 canary
1 pint cooking oil
Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions:

Grab the canary and with a large pair of scissors cut off its head. Make a small incision in the skin near the breast-bone; slip a finger inside, and deftly pull off the skin with all the feathers attached. Heat the oil until almost smoking, pop the bird in, undrawn, and deep-fry for two minutes. Remove from the oil, dust with salt and pepper and serve. (Some people recommend flambéing the canary with cognac immediately upon removing from the pan. This step is optional.)

According to the article, last year Planned Parenthood recieved $356 million in government money (our money!) and got $114 million in profit! So why do they need more money? It appears the abortion industry is alive and thriving.

My last post was written about peace of mind. Well, it lasted for a few days, but it's gone, gone, gone! I'm getting ready to spend several days itemizing my expenditures and profit in 2008 for tax purposes. I'll be thinking about this the entire time! What to do? We can't simply not pay our taxes without going to jail, now can we? I wonder what they are going to call this request for 4.6 billion in tax dollars? The Abortion Bailout???

I abhor the fact that even one penny of my hard earned money funds any portion of the abortion industry. Of course I don't know what Obama will do about this request, although we all know where he stands on abortion. Whether he grants it or not, the fact is that we are still going to be paying money to the abortion industry, like it or not.

On a side note, I won't be answering comments individually as I usually do, because I will be extremely busy today and tomorrow working on a project I'm doing for a friend, but I'll check comments as often as possible and do some visiting as time allows.

Although I run a political blog, for now I’m avoiding politics like the plague, with the exception of reading what other bloggers post. In fact, if it weren’t for the political postings of others I wouldn’t have a clue as to what’s going on, which wouldn't be such a bad thing, at least for awhile. It's a matter of sanity and wanting some semblance of peace during this sacred time when we observe the birth of our Lord.

As usual, before Thanksgiving and right after Halloween was over, the commercialization of Christmas began. There’s not much on the boob tube about the real reason for the season, including movies. After we finished with Christmas Dinner I sat down to watch some movies on Hallmark, knowing they would be running Christmas movies all day long. I watched two, which were moving and entertaining, but neither of them had anything to do with the birth of our Savior. I believe the fact that I wasn’t surprised in the least says a lot.

No, I’m not going to even get into the War on Christmas in this post, because it will dampen my spirit and I’m feeling quite pleasant and mellow. I feel at peace right now because I do know who is really in charge and it isn’t any of us, no matter what we think. It isn’t even Obama! LOL!

All that build up and preparation for one short day! WHEW! Wouldn’t it be wonderful if everyone would hold the spirit of Christmas in their hearts all year round? I don’t mean by going out and purchasing items either. I’m talking about being upbeat and pleasant and not walking around with a frown on your face. I see so many people when I do get into town who walk around looking like a living spirit of Doom and Gloom! I want to tell them, “Smile. You’re alive! You aren’t living in a mud hut somewhere scratching for roots to eat! You aren’t living in a place where you might be hauled out of bed in the middle of night and shot! You aren’t crippled up so badly that you can’t get around by yourself without help. Be thankful at least for those things.” But of course I don’t say anything. I would be perceived to be off my rocker. Besides, they may be slightly deranged and I might have my rocker knocked off! That’s another thing… we shouldn’t have to fear saying what’s in our hearts to anyone, stranger or not.

Christmas cheer should be something we hold in our hearts all year round, not only during the Christmas season. I’m going to attempt to hang on to mine, and that’s why I’m avoiding politics for a little longer than just on Christmas day. The nastiness going on in the world is simply too depressing. It’s a matter of self-preservation. So I will visit my blogger friends and risk running into political posts, but it’s not quite as bad as having a newscaster bleat all the bad stuff going on in the world.

My Christmas post was blessed with many wonderful comments. It may take awhile to get around to visiting the amazing people who commented on that blog, and my computer time is limited, so this post will be standing here for awhile before I post again.

To those of you whose blogs I may not have managed to visit to wish you a Merry Christmas, I’m doing it now. MERRY CHRISTMAS! To my Jewish friends I wish you a HAPPY HANUKKAH! To everyone I wish you PEACE OF MIND! All of us who are paying attention to what's going on in this world desperately need it, and it isn't an easy thing to achieve, so it's the best thing I can think of to wish for you.

This picture of our black lab Sweetie was taken on Christmas morning. She's getting a bit gray around the muzzle, but she still knows the joy of playing with her squeaky toys just like she did when she was a pup. She likes to play catch and she loves to fetch. She knows what peace is. We should all be so lucky!

I took this pic last night and just had to update this post with it. Talk about relaxed! Munchkin is on the left, Mrs. Norris is the one on the right and even though she looks it, she's not dead!

Christmas Lost and Christmas Found

We who celebrate the birth of Christ on December 25th know who He is and I'm so thankful I know who He is. You see, I was raised by an Atheist father. I know my step-mother had been raised in faith, but she let my father have his way, so as a child Christmas didn't really mean very much to me after my mother died from cancer when I was seven. After all, I was only seven, so of course I blamed her death on God, and there was no one to dispel that notion until I went to stay with my grandparents for a year while my father dealt with his demons. I honestly can say that I have no childhood memories of Christmas except for one. Please don't feel sorry for me because I would truly hate that.

The year my mother died I remember Christmas because my father visited me and as a Christmas present he gave me my first bicycle. That's why I remember the Christmas of 1948. My mother died and I got my first bicycle. It didn't have anything to do with the birth of Christ. All other Christmas's from 1948 until 1958 have been wiped from my memory. There are many reasons for that, but the main reason is because I was truly miserable. I'm not going to go into the horrors of my childhood in any great detail, only to say that dealing with a verbally abusive alcoholic step-mother and an Atheist father who was gone most of the time somehow wiped my memory of those years pretty much off the slate, until 1957 when I met my future husband. I'm writing this on December 23rd, early morning on our 50th wedding anniversary, which seems surreal in itself. Fifty years! My word, the time goes by fast! Cherish your youth if you still have it, because it won't last long.

I have a very strong faith in our Lord, but I don't really know how I acquired it. It seems to be something that has always been with me. As a small child I felt the presence of God, and briefly lost that feeling after my mother died, but it came back soon thereafter, and when it did it was stronger than ever. I went to church whenever I could, but I had to go with a friend. My parents never attended church. Even with my faith in the Lord, I never put Christmas together with the birth of Christ. I don't know what I thought of Christmas because I seem to have some sort of amnesia. I suppose we had a Christmas tree and gave one another presents, but I don't remember. Perhaps I don't want to, but those Christmas's are lost, along with any birthday celebrations that may or may not have taken place. What ever the reason for the blank spots of my memory, I don't dwell on the past. I've always dwelt on the present and the future. The past is exactly that: The Past! The fact that I can't remember is probably a true gift from God.

I married a man who absolutely adores Christmas and knew about the reason for the season. I'm positive that my wonderful husband was sent to me by our Lord. When Walt came out of basic training at Ft. Ord, California, we were married in Los Angeles at City Hall the very next day and almost immediately got into his car and drove from LA to Ft. Belvoir, Virginia, where he was assigned for duty. I can tell you in all sincerity that I hated Los Angeles and detested my family, so when we left I felt that I had escaped the bowels of Hell. A strange thing to write on a Christmas post, but it's the truth. Many of you may wonder if I have forgiven my father and step-mother. The answer is yes. Absolutely! Nothing comes of carrying anger in your heart but the destruction of your own soul. To be honest, it took a long time, but I managed to forgive them both before they passed on. I do wonder sometimes if my father was surprised to discover he was wrong.

Christmas finally had meaning to me after our marriage. That first Christmas of 1958 was spent on the road driving across country to Ft. Belvoir, but even in a car with no tree and no presents, it was glorious! Every Christmas after that has been very special, but there is one that I will always remember more than any other. That is the one when my Lord sent my husband back to me alive and well from Vietnam. I'll never forget that wonderful and glorious gift, and never cease to thank God that I still have that gift! My husband is one of my life's greatest blessings. That was the Christmas of 1970.

Even though Christmas had no real meaning to me during my growing up years, it has been my favorite time of year for many years now. I learned the true meaning of Christmas and don't feel deprived in the least bit because of lost Christmas's of the past. On October 1st, 1941, my physical birth took place, but my real birth took place on December 23rd, 1958, a birth that I celebrate today. On Christmas Eve we will go to church to worship our Lord and celebrate His glorious birth, and in the morning we will do the traditional exchange of gifts, which we really don't need because we have each other, and that's the best gift either one of us has ever been given. I know I feel that way, and I also know my husband feels the same way because he tells me so almost every day.
I am so blessed!

Everything But the Kitchen Sink

Are you ready for Christmas? I’m not. I’ve still tons of things to do, and having company for the last few days brought preparations to a screeching halt.

There won’t be any political pontifications here today, or at least not many. Sometimes I can‘t help myself. The boob tube in the rec room - there’s a pool table in there, so I guess it can be called a rec room, but there’s also a lot of plants with a wall that is mostly windows, so it could be a solarium (perhaps we should call it a “recarium”) - stays on most days and every time I pass by I hear something about Blagojevich. Is that all that’s going on in the world? Wait… I also heard someone being interviewed on Fox News who said this cold weather from coast to coast is the result of global warming. I’m not going to try to figure that out, because that type of reasoning makes my head hurt.

Oh yes, I also heard some medical expert say that if you drink to much over the holidays, the “hair of the dog that bit you” won’t help. I beg to differ! I haven’t had to do the “hair of the dog” thing for many years, but I would be lying if I said I’ve never used it, and a good old-fashioned Bloody Mary in the morning worked wonders. So much for the expert. But do try not to imbibe excessively because there is nothing to be gained by falling in love with the commode, and it looks extremely undignified!

Christmas is almost upon us, Santa is making his final preparations, and the Grinches are unsuccessful in their attempts to dampen our spirits. But you have to give them credit for not losing their enthusiasm in their efforts to do so. I admire tenacity, even among the demented. I noticed that Santa still says “Ho, Ho, Ho”, in spite of the Don Imus idiocy. (If you don’t know what I’m referring to, then you need to see this).

Speaking of Christmas, we don’t put lights all over the house like so many people do, but we did build a large star (8'x8') and decorated it with lights. It's placed against the outside of the house and doesn’t have anything to do with our living in the Lone Star state of Texas. It’s to symbolize the star the three Magi followed when Jesus was born:

Last - but certainly not least - this month Walt and I celebrate our 50th wedding anniversary. We were married when I was 17 and he was 18, and even though everyone said we didn't know what we were doing, obviously we did. I am very proud of this achievement, but only because it's so rare these days. I wish it weren't! Here's a picture of the two of us when we were first married. So, on to our 51st year of marriage. We have been very blessed!

Adrenaline Rushes Are For the Birds!

Before we get to the subject of Adrenaline Rushes, remember the post I did recently titled "Rewriting the Constitution"? Most of us thought it was bogus but thanks to Griper, a blogging friend, it has been broven to be true. An update has been posted.

There are two posts up today, this one is personal, the one below it is political, so you have a choice. No… I’m not going to do this often. In fact, we have company tomorrow, and I don’t know how long they will be staying, so I can’t say when I will be posting again. They eat like they’ve been starving to death, so I’ll be spending a lot of time cooking. It’s a good thing I like to cook!

Now for the subject of this post, adrenaline rushes. I’ve heard and read about many people being addicted to adrenalin rushes. It is said that people who intentionally risk their lives on a regular basis are probably addicted to them, such as people who go over Niagara Falls in a barrel, or scale the sides of tall buildings. I can’t imagine being addicted to that sort of a feeling. I experienced a huge adrenaline rush yesterday and to say it was awful was an understatement!

We drove into Temple, TX yesterday to do some Christmas shopping. For those of you who believe it never gets cold in Central Texas, you’re wrong. It was 35 degrees when we left the house at 9:30am and on the way to Temple the temperature dropped, and a light rain began to fall. It didn’t last long, but it was enough to ice up the bridges and overpasses in Temple. I was driving. By the time we reached Temple the roads were dry but we hit black ice on an overpass that spans a busy highway in Temple and my car spun out. I wasn’t going fast, because I know about the dangers of black ice on overpasses. I totaled a car years ago because of it. Yesterday I took my foot off the gas immediately, didn't touch the brake, and against every natural instinct turned into the spin, which is what I learned in defensive driving. My car headed toward the rail on the opposite side of the bridge, but we were lucky because there was no oncoming traffic, but that railing was coming up awfully fast and there was plenty of traffic twenty feet or so below the bridge! I experienced an eerie calmness and all sorts of things rushed through my head. I didn’t see my life passing in front of me, but I thought about all our loved ones who would be heartbroken. I thought about our dog and two cats locked in the house. Who would feed them? I even thought about my fish sitting on top of the piano in it’s fishbowl. Still… I was so calm it was weird. Then the car straightened out and I was able to drive back into my lane. That’s when the adrenalin rush hit and it hit like a ton of bricks! I was so shaky I’m surprised I was able to continue driving, but I did. Even an hour later I felt the affects of it. To me, it’s a horrible experience.

For those people who are addicted to adrenaline rushes, they are welcome to mine. They can have them! I’m going to call my daughter and let her know I'm sendiing her a key to the house - just to be on the safe side. If possible, I’m never, ever going to drive anywhere again if there is any possibility of ice, black or otherwise. Walt and I have much to be thankful for.

Lawsuit Filed Against Treasury Secretary Paulson and the Federal Reserve Board

ANN ARBOR, MI – A federal lawsuit was filed this morning against U.S. Treasury Secretary Henry M. Paulson, Jr. and the Federal Reserve Board to stop all bailout funds from going to American International Group, Inc. (“AIG”). According to the lawsuit, the U.S. government, through its ownership of AIG, is not only violating the Constitution, but also promoting and financing the destruction of America using American tax dollars.

The basis of the lawsuit is that AIG intentionally promotes Shariah-compliant businesses and insurance products, which by necessity must comply with the 1200 year old body of Islamic canon law based on the Quran, which demands the conversion, subjugation, or destruction of the infidel West, including the United States. To help achieve these objectives and with the aid of federal tax dollars, AIG employs a three-person Shariah Advisory Board, with members from Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, and Pakistan. According to AIG, the role of its Shariah authority “is to review operations, supervise its development of Islamic products, and determine Shariah compliance of these products and investments.”

If what they are charging is true, then it's despicable. I don't know what to make of it myself, and this is the first I've heard of it. Once again I ask my readers for their views. Rewriting the Constitution

UPDATE (December 17): I posited in the following post that what I posted from World Net Daily may not be true. Many commenters agreed with that analysis, but Griper, an internet friend, has completed some research for me and found that WND was right on. He knew I was too overloaded to do it myself and so I thank him for his diligence. Thanks, Griper. Here is what Griper sent me in an e-mail:

The resolution was introduced into the house of representatives of ohio on Dec. 3rd by Rep. Huffman, rep.

I came across this on Canadian Sentinel's post: “U.S. Constitution, Americans' Rights In Danger: States Call For 'Constitutional Convention' To Rewrite”, I haven't heard any mention of it on the MSM, not even Fox News.

From World Net Daily - "U.S. now only 2 states away from rewriting Constitution" (bold is mine):

A public policy organization has issued an urgent alert stating affirmative votes are needed from only two more states before a Constitutional Convention could be assembled.

Tom DeWeese, who runs the center and its education and grassroots work, told WND the possibilities stunned him when he discovered lawmakers in Ohio are considering a call for a Constitutional Convention. He explained that 32 other states already have taken that vote, and only one more would be needed to require Congress to name convention delegates who then would have more power than Congress.

"If Ohio votes to call a Con Con, for whatever purpose, the United States will be only one state away from total destruction. And it's a safe bet that those who hate this nation, and all She stands for, are waiting to pounce upon this opportunity to re-write our Constitution."

There is much more at the link. Please read it and tell me what you think. As for me, I don’t know what can be done about it if it’s true and the MSM is avoiding it. Is it true? Could World Net Daily post this and it not be true? Wouldn’t they run the risk of being sued? I ask this because I’ve had so many readers tell me World Net Daily isn’t a reliable source, but I don’t see how they could fabricate something of this magnitude and not run the risk of being sued.

A Christmas Gift

What a wonderful Christmas gift to the child and his family!

Just in case you missed hearing about this on the news, those two puppies saved a three-year-old boy's life.

A toddler lost in the Virginia woods was back home safe Sunday thanks to two puppies who kept him warm through a harrowing night of freezing temperatures.

How did these puppies know to do that? Was it merely instinct or something more? Personally, I believe it's something more. Some people may say the puppies did that only to get the warmth of the boy's body. It's their right to believe whatever they want to believe, but I believe in miracles, and I've also experienced my Black Lab Sweety staying by my side whenever I'm feeling sick. She'll follow me around and when I sit down she lays her head in my lap. She only does that when I'm not feeling well, and her expressive eyes tell me she's worried about me. I don't think we people who believe we are so superior give dogs enough credit.

To me this is a wonderful story that makes it clear that we humans who believe we know everything haven't even touched the surface of what is possible.

Take Back the Houses

The organization "Take Back the Land" would be named more accurately if it were "Take Back the Houses."

I messed up. I peaked out a window from La La Land just for a minute and saw this from the Seattle Times: "Activist placing squatters in foreclosed homes”

Marie Nadine Pierre holds her baby, Nennon, as she walks around inside the "peopleless" house where she has been living in Miami. Pierre is squatting in a bank-foreclosured house.

“Take Back the Land” is an organization that helps homeless people find houses that have been foreclosed on to live in. They also help them with used furniture, cleaning supplies and yard upkeep. According to the video posted below, if the electricity isn’t hooked up, they are even furnished with solar panels. I don’t know where they get their food from, because the article doesn’t say. Probably food stamps. The entire article is at the link.

In the article one man named Pierre says: “My heart is heavy. I’ve lived in a lot of different shelters, a lot of bad situations. In my own home I’m free. I’m a human being now.”

Take Back the Land on CNN

According to the man being interviewed in the above video, Max Rameaux, some of these homeless people are homeless because they’ve lost their homes due to bank foreclosures, which means people who were given loans for houses even though they couldn’t afford them, and lost those houses because they couldn’t afford to pay back the loans, are now living in houses that were occupied by other people who lost their homes for the same reason. It reminds me of the game we played as children, “Musical Chairs”, only now it’s “Musical Houses” minus the music.

What a sad state of affairs! Is this still America? Perhaps those of you who have lost your jobs and are in dire straights should move to Miami. I know a few of you, but I know you would never live in a house you can’t afford to pay for.

I don’t know what to think. I hate to think of families with children out on the streets in this country. I do know who to blame for this mess, but what good does that do? Blame never solved anything. So once again, I’ll ask my readers what they think. As for me, I’ll be going back to La La Land. At least for awhile. As always, I’ll visit as time allows, and I will be very thankful that my home is paid for because it's very cold here right now.

Visiting La La Land for a Day

What to post??? Yes, there's Blogojevich, but everyone and their brother is posting about him. Well, most people anyway, and besides, I'm trying to get into the Christmas spirit. Politics be danged... I'm putting up my Christmas tree. It's a big job because it's an eight foot tree. I can't imagine having to decorate one larger than that, but may of my friends have 10 foot trees, including my blogging partner, Old Soldier. He tells me he has two of them! I'll be playing Christmas music today, not watching the news, and pretending that the world is a safe and sane place, that Hollywood only makes wholesome movies, that the media always tells the truth, that only love for one's fellow man is in the air anywhere, and that Americans are united. In other words, I'm visiting La La Land, at least today, and possibly longer.

Hey! I can pretend once-in-awhile, can't I?

I haven't heard any news lately. In fact, I just got home from Marble Falls. I spent Monday visiting my friend who is in the rest home there. When I returned I checked my e-mail, and the following is from a real-life friend who is teaching in Pristina, Kosovo. I wish he were teaching here. He's a conservative. But I'm interested in knowing if any of my readers have even heard about this, and I pray my friend isn't in any danger:

I don't know if events in Kosovo have made the news where you live, what with all the attention on the U.S. Presidential election and now the transition in progress from the Bush to the Obama administration. But there have been plenty of newsworthy goings-on right here in Pristina in the past six weeks ...

Ever since the adoption of U.N. Council Resolution on June 10, 1999 (at the declared end of the armed conflict between Serbia and Kosovo), there has been a U.N. administration (civil and
military) here. Kosovo has its own government and parliament, but it has been operating under the U.N.'s protective custody.

As of tomorrow (December 9), the United Nation Mission in Kosovo (abbreviated, "UNMIK") officially ends and the European Union Rule of Law Mission (abbreviated, "EULEX") takes over the duties that UNMIK had been performing. This does not mean that the U.N. is pulling out of Kosovo altogether. In fact, it does not appear that the U.N. are going anywhere for a while.
Kosovars are upset about and united against the U.N. Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon 's six point plan for the deployment of EULEX. Serbia from which Kosova declared its independence this past February) backs the six-point plan, and they've staged two well-attended demonstrations against it. The first was November 18th and the other, December 2nd. These protests took place right outside the school, and many of our students were easily (and understandably) distracted by them.

The demonstrations were animated, but thankfully, not violent. We were encouraged to stay away from the area where the events were taking place on a "just in case" basis. I'll keep you posted on developments concerning the deployment of EULEX as they unfold and I learn more about the situation.

Love from Iraq

I haven't taken the time to e-mail her yet (shame on me!) but I will as soon as I get a package together and get it mailed. Looks like I'll need to go shopping again! I will also take her address and e-mail and post it on the bulletin board at church. My prayers are that this wonderful young woman stays safe, and that many packages for the kids will be sent.

Here's a picture I got off of the internet of some kids and soldiers in Iraq this year. We take so much for granted in this country, don't we? God bless our soldiers and God bless the children!

CHICAGO - Almost one in five young American adults has a personality disorder that interferes with everyday life, and even more abuse alcohol or drugs, researchers reported Monday in the most extensive study of its kind.

The disorders include problems such as obsessive or compulsive tendencies and anti-social behavior that can sometimes lead to violence. The study also found that fewer than 25 percent of college-aged Americans with mental problems get treatment.

What seems normal to one person may not seem normal to another. Two questions: Who's deciding what a personality disorder is? Do they have any personality disorders themselves? Are all psychiatrists personality disorder free? Okay... that's three questions. Sorry.

I've been tagged by Don's mind. The tag requires that I post seven "odd" things about myself. it seems to fit in pretty well with this post.

I occasionally enjoy the whiff of Skunk when driving. I'm a woman who hates to shop. I don't like crowds, and after hearing about that poor man being stomped to death at a Wal-Mart, I'm thankful for that! I'm ambidextrous. I don't have a favorite color. I actually like Caster Oil. I like the smell of Cabbage. My favorite smell is gasoline. So... am I normal? Probably not. But what's normal, and as I said before, who gets to decide? Do I even want to be considered "normal"? I don't think so. We're all born with different abilities, and we all have different experiences that help make up our personalities. One man's "normal" is another man's "crazy as a loon", so I don't see how these studies can be made with any real accuracy.

I know the study focused on personality deficiencies that interfere with everyday life, but I still have my doubts as to the accuracy of it, probably because I hate to contemplate one out of five young people being nuts.

I'm going shopping today. :(

Other than the horrible terrorist attacks in Mubai, I stayed away from the news all week and don't have a clue as to what's going on. No apologies about that though. It's wonderful to get away from it all!

December is almost upon us, and so it will be a busy time for me, and for most of you who read this post. I'll be slowing down a lot. Not simply because there's so much to do to prepare for Christmas but also because we are under attack here. Wild hogs are running rampant, uprooting everything they can get their snouts under, and killing small animals. The outdoor cats are in mortal danger. This won't make the PETA people ecstatic, but we'll be spending many mornings hunting them. The neighbor will make good use from them. He says they make great sausage. I've tasted his sausage and don't like it, but he's welcome to them. It's been three years since I've had to hunt wild hogs. I was hoping they would be gone forever, but no such luck.

That's just one of the small projects I have planned. We also are repainting the inside of the house. So I'll post when I can, and I'll be visiting sometimes when I haven't posted anything new.

Thanks for all the comments left on my last post. I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving, even though one of the commenters said her Thanksgiving consisted of a Whataburger. Radar sources close to Senator Clinton confide that she is going to relinquish her Senate seat to accept the top cabinet post in the administration of Barack Obama.
I also heard this on the news last night.

I don't see how this can help Obama but Wall Street bounced back 500 points yesterday, so evidently Wall Street approves. I'm uncertain what to think, other than the fact this doesn't seem like "change" to me.

The Huffington Post also ran this news. There's already 17,931 comments there, and many do not sound pleased. Just a sampling:
- I Hear You.. I am thinking of Moving to Europe Myself, I am very disapointed In Obama's selection, she is a Warmonger, to say the very least.. God Help us all...

- "EXCUSE ME?? I WILL NOT GET OVER IT!! HILLARY DOES NOT REPRESENT CHANGE, I HOPE SHE SCREWS UP BADLY, AND OBAMA WILL REALIZE WHAT A MISTAKE HE MADE !!!"

- "Yuck, yuck, and yuck. As I wrote yesterday, she is reactionary and hot-headed, not in possession of the type of temperament a secretary of state should have."

- "I have watched in disbelief as this politician who botched health care so terribly for all Americans in the Nineties insisted on a "leadership role" in health care now. So evidently many Obama supporters are not exactly pleased with this pick.

All I can conclude so far is that politics does indeed make for strange bedfellows. I thought that this might be the deal Obama and Hillary made in order for her to campaign for him, but I doubt we'll ever know for sure. Dick Morris seems to believe Obama is nuts, but then one must consider that Morris hates Hillary with a passion. I'm no fan either, but we all knew that losing her run for the White House wasn't going to keep her down. I have to grudgingly admire her determination, while wondering what Obama is thinking. Hillary want's to be the president... we all know that, and I'm sure he does too. Will she run against him in 2012? I guess we'll find out.

"They are absolutely unaware of the ecological impact of their drug taking and we want to change that."

Anti-Islam Decal Not Allowed on Marine Base

It's now official: We are our own worst enemy! As one of the lawyers said who will be defending this 25-year Marine Veteran, this is political correctness run amuck! Terrorists must be laughing themselves silly!

This decal is why Jesse Nieto, 25-year Marine Veteran, was ticketed. Now you would think that he may have been ticketed in San Francisco, or Massachusetts, or perhaps Portland, but no... he was ticketed on a Marine base! The decal says "We died, they rejoiced" and shows the Islamic symbol. We did die, and boy, did they ever rejoice, and the Marines fight them each and every day, so what the hell is going on? I find this so utterly ridiculous, stupid, asinine, that I'm having a hard time expressing my outrage!

Marine base bans anti-Islam decals: Jesse Nieto is a 25-year Marine veteran who served two tours of duty in Vietnam. His youngest son, Marc, was one of 17 service members killed on October 12, 2000 by Islamic terrorists who bombed the USS Cole. Since 2001, Nieto -- who is now a civilian employee at Camp LeJeune, North Carolina -- has displayed various decals on his vehicle expressing anti-terrorist sentiments such as "Islam = Terrorism" and "We Died, They Rejoiced."

Richard Thompson, president and chief counsel of the Thomas More Law Center, says on July 31, 2008, two military police officers issued Nieto a ticket for displaying what they described as "offensive material."

A court-ordered psychological evaluation has determined that this woman, Aafia Siddiqui, is unfit for trial. They say she is:

"unable to understand the nature and consequences of court proceedings and cannot assist properly in her defense..." *snip*
Siddiqui, who was labeled an al-Qaida supporter by the government in 2004, was charged with attempted murder and assault after she was accused of grabbing a rifle at a police station in Afghanistan in July and shooting at U.S. Army and law enforcement personnel. She was shot and wounded as well.

Her lawyer, Elizabeth Fink, claims that Siddiqui has suffered enormous psychological pain and that "There's every reason to believe that she was broken and what happened to her that put her in this state was caused by her being held by the dark side, whether that's the Americans or the Pakistanis or the Afghanis." (Bold is mine)

So... we are now linked with Pakistanis and Afghanis and have become part of "The Dark Side". I can't even begin to express how disgusted I am with the blame America crowd!

If terrorists are going to be given the same rights in our courts as American citizens, how many times do you think they will get off on the grounds of having been found incompetent? Personally, I believe they all could be, because after all, people who are willing to kill innocent women and children are insane, right? People who teach their children that Jews are Pigs can't be wrapped too tight, can they? People who will strap bombs to their own babies are just plain nuts, right? People who will kill you for not belonging to their religion are psycopaths, right? They need psychological help because they have been exposed "TO THE DARK SIDE", but - according to Ms. Elizabeth Fink, we are also The Dark Side.

Okay, enough. It's official. "Meh" is now a word!

The expression of indifference or boredom has gained a place in the Collins English Dictionary after generating a surprising amount of enthusiasm among lexicographers.

Publisher HarperCollins announced Monday the word had been chosen from terms suggested by the public for inclusion in the dictionary's 30th anniversary edition, to be published next year.

The origins of "meh" are murky, but the term grew in popularity after being used in a 2001 episode of "The Simpsons" in which Homer suggests a day trip to his children Bart and Lisa.

"They both just reply 'meh' and keep watching TV," said Cormac McKeown, head of content at Collins Dictionaries.

The dictionary defines "meh" as an expression of indifference or boredom, or an adjective meaning mediocre or boring. Examples given by the dictionary include "the Canadian election was so meh." (Which Canadian election? The one where they finally got a conservative Prime Minister? If so, I guess I can see where the Brits would think so.)

The dictionary's compilers said the word originated in North America, spread through the Internet and was now entering British spoken English.

No More Bailouts!

Here's some food for thought: Detroit Auto workers make an average of $75.00 per hour. Along with pensions and benefits, this adds $1,500 to a car. $17 million per year is spent on Viagra! Viagra!!! LOL! Must be part of their health care package. The above information can be found here.
For all three corporations the average wage per hour is $73.20 cents, which includes benefits.

Contrast the above with the following from Free Republic (Emphasis mine):

"...non-union Toyota, whose total hourly U.S. labor costs, with benefits, are $35 per hour. Those lower labor costs mean Toyota enjoys a cost advantage over U.S. automakers of about $1,000 per vehicle. Is it any wonder that Toyota is outselling American automakers and from plants that have been built on U.S. soil? According to James Sherk of The Heritage Foundation, Japanese car companies provide their employees with good jobs at good wages: "The typical hourly employee at a Toyota, Honda or Nissan plant in America makes almost $100,000 a year in wages and benefits, before overtime."

Conclusion... if Congress bails out the auto industry, which of course means we bail out the auto industry, nothing will change. The unions will continue to run the auto industry. However, if Congress keeps their noses out of it and lets the big three declare bankruptcy, the union contracts will be renegotiated and salaries, although less than now, will still be comparable with foreign auto makers such as Toyota, thus giving the big three employees a substantial wage, but less than they are currently making. They'd only make a measly $100,000 per year. I think I could live with that!

Rush Limbaugh is right when he says if we go after individual groups, like Hispanics, Blacks, etc., we will lose. We just tried that and we lost. He says that we can target everybody with a set of core principles regardless of the color of their skin or their gender. This is of course paraphrased, as Rush's material is copywritten.

I snagged the above map from Rush's site and I will quote him as having said "The Country is Still Conservative". The map proves he's right, so take heart, friends. He also said the people who ran McCain's campaign should be fired and disqualified from ever again running another Republican campaign and I couldn't agree with him more!

I'm sure you've heard about the anonymous and self-claimed McCain aids who have been bashing Sarah Palin. CNN jumped on it like a fly on rice!

Question: Who would pay any attention whatsoever if I anonymously claimed that when he was behind the scenes Obama was slightly creepy? What if I claimed he had associated with a known terrorist? How about being friends with a convicted felon who is presently doing time in jail for mail fraud, wire fraud, soliciting bribes, and money laundering? What if I said Obama studied the methods of the Marxist, Saul Alinsky, who said that the agitators job " is first to bring folks to the "realization" that they are indeed miserable, that their misery is the fault of unresponsive governments or greedy corporations, then help them to bond together to demand what they deserve, and to make such an almighty stink that the dastardly governments and corporations will see imminent "self-interest" in granting whatever it is that will cause the harassment to cease. What if I claimed Obama got a four-year education in these methods as a Community Organizer? Suppose I claimed Obama's campaign donations were questionable but were unlikely to be audited? Oh! Wait a minute! These claims were all proven to be true! GASP! But who paid attention other than Sean Hannity, Conservative Talk Radio and us?

So would the MSM pay any attention at all to anonymous claims that bashed Obama? Of course not! Why would they when they didn't pay any attention to the truth? Anonymous sources cannot be verified and should not be treated as news, but that's what the MSM has stooped to, and if I were Sarah Palin I wouldn't legitimize these idiots (meaning both the anonymous sources and the MSM) by even responding to them. I would have said "I will gladly respond to this if the cowards will be brave enough to give their names. Until then it is only a mean spirited rumor and baseless. I will not defend myself against such anonymous slander."

But that's just me.

Good grief! I was only away for three days! I'm beginning to think we have already become a third-world country. Some people's actions are disgusting beyond belief. As a Christian we are expected to pray for such people. I can only pray they see the error of their ways. So far it doesn't seem to be working.

GAY MARRIAGE PROPONENTS ATTACK ELDERLY WOMAN

I know most of you have probably already seen the above, but I'm playing catch-up here. I haven't watched or listened to any news whatsoever for the last two days. I figured if I had to go through cataract surgery I may as well take a break from all the nasty goings on in this old world and boy! Is this nasty or what? How big and brave that pig is who knocked the cross out of the lady's hand and stomped on it, right? What a man! UGH!

Question: Would this have happened if this woman had been wearing a burqa and carrying a sign that disagreed with homosexual marriage? HA! You know the answer to that as well as I do. But a sweet little lady carrying a cross is fair game because they know Christians aren't going to retaliate violently. I hope she takes them to court and sues their butts off! Will the ACLU help her? Of course they will... about the same time that pigs fly.

A Call to Arms

Okay, so John McCain lost, it's time to move forward with the conservative agenda. Forget the fact that the Democrats control the House, Senate and the White House, we can still move forward. I have a plan that focuses on four key points to keep the Democrats on the defensive until we can take the Legislature back in 2010.

It all starts with a roll call. It's not exactly a chain letter because I'm not promising any sort of dire consequences if one doesn't sign up and forward it to a certain number of other people. What I really want is a list of e-mail addresses and blog URL's that I can use to create a monster-sized mailing list for the rapid distribution of information. Here's the plan:

1. Letters to the editor - They are great ways to get people's attention and get discussions started about topics that perhaps the MSM doesn't want to report on. If we can provide a template, kind of like a form letter for people to customize and send to their local newspaper about whichever issue or event we choose to focus on that particular week, we can have these letters in most of the papers in the country all in the same week!

2. Conversation starters - This kind of falls under the "Letters to the Editor" category because they come from the same place. Basically, a guide for how to talk to people about these issues, facts to support the positions we take and a few answers to the questions people are likely to encounter. These will help some of the more shy and reserved conservatives get the conversations going with people they might be able to reach.

3. Accountability Alerts - These are alerts that can be compiled on a monthly or quarterly basis (or as they come in depending on urgency) and distributed to our members. These will serve a couple of purposes: allow conservatives to hold Republicans' feet to the fire to ensure they act like conservatives, praising them when they do and blasting them when they don't and secondly, keeping a record of the votes, comments and actions of the Left so that we can educate others about them and contrast our stand on the issues with the actions of the Democrats who are currently in office. No more "wish I'd known about that before hand" statements!

4. Continuing Education - I'll be doing posts that I'm going to archive in another blog that detail not just what we, as conservatives, believe but why. I'm going to divide my posts up into the following categories:
-Economics
-Family Values
-Religion
-National Security
-Immigration
-Second Amendment/Self-Defense

These will serve as quick reference posts that can be linked to (I'll do everything in my power to post as many of my sources as possible for reference purposes) as well as opportunities to polish up on issues before engaging in a conversation or debate with someone. A solid command of the facts and an understanding of the rationale behind our positions is vital if we are to keep the conservative movement alive.

But I'll need help. I need people to send this information to and I need people to send me information. We conservatives need people to send the letters to the editor, we need people to start the conversations and we need people to hold the politicians accountable. To paraphrase Samuel Adams, I need people keen to setting brush fires in the minds of men.

GOP Post Post Mortem

The title of this post may seem redundant, but that's because the first post "GOP Post Mortem" is here. Like the first post, this one has been written by my blogging partner Old Soldier. Thank you, Old Soldier!

I've turned off Comment Moderation because I don't have the time to check them as often as usual. This post will stand for awhile. As I said on my last post, I'm very busy.

Yesterday I opined that to regain relevancy the GOP needed to return to core conservative values; that centrism was not a winning position for Republican presidential candidates. Michael Medved, whom I admire, offered up this analysis which basically argues that the Republican politicians are more successful when they move toward the center; to which I am compelled to disagree. Sorry, Michael.

First of all, the comparison is drawn between McCain’s bid for the presidency, and senator’s and representative’s bids for congressional seats. This is an apples and oranges comparison in that congressional politicians have a localized base to which they must appeal; be it a state or a district. A presidential candidate must appeal to the whole nation or at least enough to garner 271 electoral votes. There is a world of difference between local and national level constituency bases.

"The exit polling for 2008 showed that only 34% of voters called themselves “conservative” (and McCain won an overwhelming 78% of those votes). Meanwhile, 45% of this year’s voters said they were “moderate.”

Let’s look at the exit poll data a little differently. Stipulations: voter turn out = 122 M, conservative turnout (34%) = 41M, moderate turnout (45%) = 55M, 26M remain (accounting for Democrats?), Obama received 65M and McCain received 57M votes.

McCain received 78 percent of 34 percent of the votes; or in numbers, McCain received 32 M conservative votes leaving 9 M conservative votes going to Obama. Since the margin of victory for Obama was 8 M votes (over McCain, what would have been the outcome if those 9 M “conservatives” had voted for a conservative candidate. Too, I believe the conservative base would have turned out another 5 to 10 M voters had a true conservative been running on the GOP ticket. The additional base would have compensated for or marginalized any “moderate” shift toward Obama.

Before anyone ridicules me for it, I realize very well that aggregate voter numbers does not account for the Electoral College – the real determiner in the presidential election. I just wanted to demonstrate that different logic produces different results.

Other than numbers, the McCain campaign could not overcome Obama’s linkage of McCain to President Bush. Right, wrong or indifferent, President Bush is not popular at this time and that linkage hurt McCain. He attempted to shed the link during the debate, unfortunately his Senatorial voting record supported Obama’s claim more so than McCain’s recant.

I believe McCain’s length of Senatorial service was a liability. He had too much of a voting record which was used against him. Obama on the other hand had little political history which prevented it being used against him. Note to the GOP: stick to conservative governors for presidential candidates.

There are innumerable other McCain defeat contributors, but I still maintain the most significant one was his self portrayal of being a [moderate] maverick. Advertising that you have; “taken on the leadership of your own party,” only serves to reinforce a rather undesirable characteristic. John McCain is a patriot who has earned the respect and admiration of this nation through his selfless service. This Old Soldier certainly respect john McCain; I may not agree with all of his political positions, but I certainly revere the path that has brought to where he is today.

Joe the Plumber

Joe Wurzelbacher (Joe the Plumber) has a website Secure Our Dream. The first paragraph at his site reads:

Congratulations to Barack Obama. The American electorate has decided that you will be our next president. As I have stated, I will honor and support my president, but there will be no free ride. When President-Elect Obama takes office in January, his term of service to the American people begins. We wish our new president blessings of wisdom and good judgment, and we pray he hearkens to our voice if ever we feel our American Dream is being threatened. It will be a loud voice, so good luck trying to ignore it.

"Good luck trying to ignore it." For sure! I thought I'd post the above link for those of you who may not know about Joe's site. He's on a mission! I don't blame him. The media treated him like dirt!

On a personal note, I'm not going to be spending as much time on this computer. I'll be cutting down to one or possibly two posts a week. I got so carried away during the presidential election that I've let everything go completely to hell in a handbasket! I've got to get my house in order. Next Tuesday I have a cateract removed and they tell me I won't be able to bend or lift anything heavier than 10 pounds for a week (sheesh!) so I'll probably spend my normal time on the pc during that week - after the eye patch comes off on Thursday - as I'll be bored out of my mind!

Okay, I know I've said I'd be slowing down before, but this time I mean it! LOL!

Why We Lost

The comment thread of my last post is filled with mixed emotions of every sort. Before I get started on the purpose of this post I want to say that the comments that I did receive from liberals have not been gloating or unkind. I haven't had to delete any comments at all and hope that it remains that way.

Sadness, anger, disappointment, just about every emotion that people can register have been expressed in the comment section of the last post. I think... no, I know, that most of my conservative friends are feeling all of those emotions. I know that I am. Tuesday morning when I woke up with the absolute certainty that I had been wrong and Obama was going to win I actually cried. By the time he won the election I was resigned to it and emotion had already been spent. As I said in my last post, it is what it is, and so we must get on with it.

I think that most of us are truly worried because we don't really know who Obama is. We are afraid because his past associations have been so anti-American. Bill Ayers, Reverend Wright, Tony Rezko, Louis Farrakhan. There are probably more. I can't keep up with all of it. Then there's the distinct possibility that not all of the donations he received have been from American citizens. Some of you have said Obama is evil. I know that Obama, like Hillary, studied under Saul Alinsky - a Marxist. But the truth of the matter is that none of us know what Obama will do as POTUS, and so - for that - we are going to have to wait and see. I know that we are afraid of what he may do, or more accurately, of what he may not do, but that fear isn't going to help us. So what will?

Determination. Determination to keep an eye on this man and make sure he puts America first. Determination to return to the values the Republican Party used to hold, the party of Ronald Reagan! Determination to never, ever elect another candidate to run for POTUS unless he sticks to the core values of conservatism! We compromised and you see now where that got us. McCain is a good and decent man with a very admirable record of patriotism, but he is not, and he never has been, a true Republican! The Republican party screwed up badly by electing a man they knew wasn't a true Republican because it was thought that he would have a better chance of winning moderates and independents. Compromise can sometimes be a great thing, but compromising core values can be deadly. This is a lesson the Republican Party should never forget! Conservatives didn't want to hear McCain constantly chanting how he was willing to "reach across the aisle." There were times during his stump speeches when I thought that if he said he would reach across the aisle one more time I would scream! I read somewhere that his reaching across the aisle to people like Pelosi and Reid could result in his getting his fingers chopped off! Well, it was worse than that. His willingness to do that, and our willingness to compromise cost us this election. Conservatives wanted a candidate who would stick up for what they believed in. True conservatives love Sarah Palin but she wasn't the one running for president.

It's time to get back to work and we now have four years to get it right.

My husband and I own a farm and we grow a lot of tomatoes. I know you're wondering what that has to do with anything. Just this: There is a certain weed that I don't know the name of that grows among the tomatoes and looks almost exactly like a tomato plant. But it's a weed that disguises itself as a tomato plant so it can sit there and steal the water meant for the real tomato plants. It it time consuming and aggravating to have to search through the true tomato plants in order to identify this imposter. The leaves of this weed must be scrutinized carefully in order to distinguish the difference, because not all tomato plants bloom at the same time and you don't want to pull out a tomato plant by accident. Get my drift?

This is the last post I will write regarding this election. It's now a done deal and we will have to live with the results of the mistakes that were made, and work to insure that we never make those same mistakes again!

Evidently it's a time to lose, but It is not a time to hate. Neither is it a time to weep or keep silent. It's time to pull ourselves up by our bootstraps and fight for the principals we believe in. We conservatives have only one way to go from here, and that is up!

I threw away my imaginary crystal ball - it's evidently damaged beyond repair. I predicted McCain would win, but yesterday morning I awoke with the almost certain conviction that I was wrong. The people have spoken and whether we like it or not, Barack Obama is now the 44th president of the United States.

It's not all bad, friends. The world will no longer claim we are a prejudiced nation, and perhaps the liberals will leave Governor Sarah Palin and Joe the Plumber alone now! Neither did the Democrats get the magic number of 60 seats in the Senate. That would have been truly disastrous! Okay, perhaps that seems like being happy with crumbs. I'm not happy with the crumbs but it's better than nothing.

Will Barack Obama live up to his promises? I don't know. We don't know who he is, but It's apparent that we will be finding out very soon. Barack Obama is someone who hasn't been tested, but that's about to change. What will he do as the most powerful person in the known world? We're about to find out, aren't we? Will our enemies dance in the streets as predicted? We're about to find that out too.

One thing is for certain - this isn't the time to cry in our beer! We've got to continue to fight for the principals and values we believe in. The majority of Americans have spoken, and whether we like the outcome or not, it's the way the system works. We don't have to be happy about it, but we do have to live with it. As the ten commandments says: "So let it be written. So let it be done."

About two weeks ago I was feeling very dispirited about what's happening in our country and wrote new verses for "America the Beautiful". I was going to post it if Obama won. I also have a picture of a roll of toilet paper with the Constitution written on it, signifying our Constitution being flushed down the toilet and had intended to post that too. But what's the point? That would only imply that I'm a quitter and willing to give up. This is not the time for that! It's time to remember who we are as conservatives and what we believe in. It's time to remember that God gave human beings free will, so those who think He may have deserted us, you're wrong. God never deserts us!

People who have so little class that they are tempted to post gloating and hurtful comments will not be published. I would never dream of going to liberal blogs and doing that if McCain had won, so I'll not tolerate it here.

Here's just a snippet from an article from Rush Limbaugh: (emphasis is mine):

Murtha's asked for a million-dollar campaign donation. He's in trouble. Jack Murtha's in trouble in his "racist" "redneck" district, quote Jack Murtha, unquote, near Johnstown. He's in trouble. There's a lot going on here that the Drive-Bys are not reporting because they've been swept up in all that we have learned here from the inside Obama campaign that the entire campaign has been to create an illusion. The entire campaign has been to create an illusion -- starting with skewing pollsters and co-opting the Drive-By Media -- to make it look like this is a fait accompli from the get-go. And this is why in the past week to ten days, I've made the point repeatedly here, not to fall prey to what you see on television and read in the dwindling editions of newspapers that are out there.

Then there's this from The Democratic Underground. Yes, that's right, The Democratic Underground! For once the democrats are right about something. I heard the same thing on Fox News yesterday but couldn't find a link to it:

The Democratic Underground claims Florida Hispanics are sticking with the GOP. "As Democrat Barack Obama headlines a rally Wednesday during his second campaign swing through Florida in as many weeks, he faces a challenge in the diverse battleground state: winning over Hispanics."

So... if anyone reading this believes that Obama is a done deal, think again! The only thing that can screw this up for McCain is if Republicans lose heart and decide it's useless to vote, WHICH IS EXACTLY WHAT THEY WANT YOU TO THINK! (I'm sorry, but I'm adament about this!)

Get out and vote! The media tries this every time and we must not let them get away with it. I know that my conservative friends don't need to be told, but I write this for those of you who don't comment because I don't know what you're thinking or how demoralized the media and the pollsters have made you feel. So for those of you who are feeling that way remember this, the only way to be a loser is to claim that you have lost before the fight is over! GO VOTE! If you don't, you will only have yourself to blame.

Okay, that's my last word before the election. Tonight I leave for Austin and I'll return sometime Wednesday. What comments I don't get published before I leave this evening will remain in moderation until then. I'll be away tomorrow (Monday) because of a Doctor's appointment. I also have no intention of sitting up all night Tuesday waiting for the results of the election. I've been saying all along that the polls are never worth paying any attention to, and that McCain will win, and I'm sticking to it! I've already had liberals in my comment threads saying Obama's already won (they can't even wait until after the votes are counted) and also that if McCain wins it will be because he cheated. It's total evidence that many on the far left have left the land of reason and will probably never return.

Is it a good move? Is it a bad move? I wouldn't know because I don't watch Saturday Night Live. I've seen the videos shown on Fox News but I don't watch the show, and I certainly don't presume to tell anyone how to run their campaign. I'm just curious as to what you think.

The sudden financial crisis and the prospect of a deep and painful recession have increased the urgency inside the Obama team to bring people down to earth, after a campaign in which his soaring rhetoric and promises of "hope" and "change" are now confronted with the reality of a stricken economy.

One senior adviser told The Times that the first few weeks of the transition, immediately after the election, were critical, "so there's not a vast mood swing from exhilaration and euphoria to despair."

McCain, like most of us, has been saying for weeks that Obama, if elected, wouldn't be able to keep the promises he's been making. Whose fault would it be that "euphoric supporters are harboring unrealistic hopes of what he can achieve"? It couldn't possibly be Obama's, now could it? But the same article also says that Obama's "plans are so far advanced that an Obama Cabinet has been largely decided upon, with the expectation that most of his senior appointments could be announced shortly after election day."

Don't measure the drapes too soon, Obama. This news may go over like a lead balloon with some of your euphoric minions.

But McCain is making a strange move too. He's going to be campaigning the next four days with Governor Schwartzenegger. Is this a smart move on his part or not? I honestly don't know what to think about it. I don't presume to tell anyone how to run their campaign, other than to tell the truth, which obviously Obama hasn't been doing - but Schwartzenegger? What do you think about that?

The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly

The good:
Please don't spit coffee all over your keyboard as you read this, but a Democrat, Ms. Elaine Lafferty, the former editor of Ms. Magazine, actually has high praise for Sarah Palin. Just part of the article Ms. Lafferty wrote which is published by The Daily Beast:

I'm a Democrat, but I've worked as a consultant with the McCain campaign since shortly after Palin's nomination. Last week, there was the thought that as a former editor-in-chief of Ms. magazine as well as a feminist activist in my pre-journalism days, I might be helpful in contributing to a speech that Palin had long wanted to give on women's rights.

Now by “smart,” I don't refer to a person who is wily or calculating or nimble in the way of certain talented athletes who we admire but suspect don't really have serious brains in their skulls. I mean, instead, a mind that is thoughtful, curious, with a discernable pattern of associative thinking and insight. Palin asks questions, and probes linkages and logic that bring to mind a quirky law professor I once had. Palin is more than a “quick study”; I'd heard rumors around the campaign of her photographic memory and, frankly, I watched it in action. She sees. She processes. She questions, and only then, she acts. What is often called her “confidence” is actually a rarity in national politics: I saw a woman who knows exactly who she is.

How ecstatically refreshing! Thank you Ms. Lafferty, for being someone willing to go against your party's talking points. Kudos to you!

The Bad:
On the other hand we have this Democrat:

BOSTON — Sen. Dianne Wilkerson, who cuts a glittering, energetic figure around the Massachusetts Statehouse, stood alone and soberly attired in federal court Tuesday after being charged with accepting $23,500 in bribes — including $10,000 to fund her write-in campaign next week.

The Democrat was freed on a $50,000 unsecured bond. FBI agents arrested her at her Boston home earlier in the day on charges of attempted extortion as a public official and theft of honest services as a state senator.

An FBI affidavit includes a series of still photographs from video recordings allegedly showing Wilkerson accepting money from undercover agents, in one case stuffing cash under her sweater and inside her bra.

I hope she enjoys "glittering" in jail! Somehow the first article surprises me but the second one doesn't. I wonder why that is?

The Ugly:
Obama Accepting Untraceable Donations Of course he is. I've been wondering for weeks why this information hasn't been on the news - at least on Fox News! Neither am I saying Obama is ugly, but what he is doing is ugly indeed. If you are somehow unaware of this, go to the link and read the entire article.

Yellow Dog Democrats and Lying Pollsters

I live in the south in a county that has more Democrats than Republicans, and I know many Yellow Dog Democrats. If you don't know what a Yellow Dog Democrat is or where the term came from, please click on the link.

I personally know Yellow Dog Democrats who are going to break with their tradition and will be voting for McCain/Palin this year. I also know that many Blacks will vote for Obama for no other reason than that he is Black, while also ignoring - as usual - the fact that the Democrats were the party that insisted on protecting slavery in the south. For instance, there were almost no Republicans in Georgia in the years leading up to the Civil War, and if you were Black you were lucky if you were a house slave - most Blacks were breaking their backs in the cotton fields, including women and children. Of course this fact escapes many Blacks who blame Republicans for slavery. Well, I'm not telling most of you anything you don't know. I simply wanted to give you the news that there are Yellow Dog Democrats who are going to be breaking with tradition. Sometimes I have a tendency to get carried away.

So I'll change the subject. Here is another fine video from my friend Miradena which may help explain why some Yellow Dog Democrats are changing the habit of a lifetime:

Do you consider that news? I don't consider it news. Why wouldn't many at the Useless Nations hope that Obama wins? Fox News titles their link to the Washington Post article "U.N. Prayer: Please, God, Let Obama Win" You and I both know without a doubt that many of those prayers being send from the U.N. are to Mohammed.

Our enemies are praying for Obama to win, and those stations willing to present tough questions to this candidate aren't allowed to do so, and since the great majority of the MSM are also unwilling to do so, where does that leave the average American voter who doesn't follow politics as closely as we do? Without a clue? Absolutely!

I've received a few e-mails from some of my personal friends and some of the readers of this blog who say they are very frustrated. Of course they are and so am I. Most of the media has been liberal for a long time but this is the worst I've seen in my lifetime. Want to guess what will happen to free speech if Obama gets into the White House? Government Computers Used to Dig up Private Information on Joe the Plumber

The Dispatch reported that information on Wurzelbacher was accessed by accounts assigned to the office of Ohio Attorney General Nancy H. Rogers, the Cuyahoga County Child Support Enforcement Agency and the Toledo Police Department.

It has not been determined who checked on Wurzelbacher, or why, The Dispatch reported.

The investigation could become "criminal in nature," attorney general's office spokeswoman Jennifer Brindisi told The Dispatch.

The article didn't tell us, but Ohio Attorney General Nancy H. Rogers is a Democrat. I'm sure you aren't surprised. The Democrats have vetted Joe far more than they did Obama, if they vetted Obama at all. In my opinion It's morally criminal to have hounded Joe Wurzelbacher the way they have, but now it has become a matter of legality because what they did by using government computers to dig up information on a private citizen who had done nothing other than ask Obama a question, is illegal!

We know Joe isn't the only one who sees it that way, don't we? The article quotes Joe as having said: ""When I was face to face with him, my honest first impression was that I expected something more. I had heard so much about 'his presence' in the media that I was surprised to find that he seemed very average." "Average"? Good grief! Say it ain't so, Joe! LOL!

On a personal note, this campaign has been so long, so vile and the MSM so one-sided that I'm completely worn out. After this election regardless of the results, I'm going to be slowing down a lot. We will have Thanksgiving and Christmas very soon, and with company and all the preparations, that's really a busy time for me, so my posts may stand here for a week or two, and I'll be visiting when I can. Real life awaits and I'm looking forward to it!

If Joe Wurzelbacher is really considering running for Congress, I hope he knows what he's getting into.

Polls, Pundits and Paranoia

Today the DOW opened at 8,224, sinking 550 points since yesterday and Fox News titles it's article "Futures Plummet, Ugly Day On Street Expected".

Yesterday the DOW was up, today it's down. The day-before-yesterday it was down. It's like a woman with a bad case of PMS! Fear seems to be driving this, but fear of what? I sure don't know enough to be able to put it together. It's as though everyone is paranoid. My hubby and I have stocks, but they are long term and so we've held on, and even purchased more because they are cheap right now. Because our credit is excellent we receive offers for loans with extremely low interest rates almost on a daily basis. The people who started this are those who wanted a free ride, those who gave it to them, and this is what it has led to.

What I do know is who is responsible for this, and it isn't President Bush! McCain won't come out and directly accuse the people responsible because they're Democrats and he doesn't want to lose any of the moderate Democrat's votes. I believe that he should just tell the truth and let the cards fall where they may, but what do I know? To me the truth is always preferable to trying to please everyone, but then I'm just an average citizen trying to figure all of this out.

I'm trying to figure out why anyone would want to give mortgages to people who can't pay anything down and have absolutely zero collateral! I'm trying to figure out why the public wasn't informed of the dangers of Freddy Mack and Fannie Mae a lot sooner. I'm trying to figure out why anyone would ever vote for a socialist who would tax them even more and sink our economy further into the cesspool that they've already created! I'm trying to figure out why "Barack Obama has refused – or been unable –to produce an authentic birth certificate that attests to the fact he is an American-born citizen. He has had more than the two-years of campaigning for the presidency of the United States to do this, but failed". I'm trying to figure out why this hasn't been mentioned even on Fox News! I'm trying to figure out why there is nothing on the news regarding Iran being able to build a nuclear bomb by February 2008 (hat tip to Wordsmith). I'm trying to figure out why - if Obama truly loves his Grandmother like he says he does - why didn't he leave for Hawaii two weeks ago when she first broke her hip? I'm trying to figure out why the Democrats keep insisting Sarah Palin doesn't have enough experience to be VP and possibly the President of the US, when she has far more experience than their front runner, Obama, who has truly never accomplished anything other than pressing the "present" button whenever a vote was taken in the Senate. I'm trying to figure out why so many Americans want a President who would leave Israel blowing in the wind and raise the white flag to our enemies? I'm trying to figure out why Joe Biden actually told us the truth when he said (paraphrased) that if we elect Obama we will be tested by our enemies within six months. I'm trying to figure out why no one seems to be looking into Obama's campaign funds which are obviously suspect! And Last but not least, I'm trying to figure out why "too many conservatives have begun to embrace a bizarre form of defeatism." (Hat tip to Old Soldier for the link)

I'm obviously trying to figure out a whole lot of things, but I'm not giving up! I refuse to listen to either the drama-queen pundits or the polls because it's all spin. There are far too many in the media who are trying their da*ndest to sway this election and I don't believe that most Americans like the press trying to choose our president for us. Neither do I believe that they appreciate the disgusting attacks that have been made on John McCain and Sarah Palin. I believe most real women - not the self-important snobs on the West Coast and in Washington - are extremely angry about the way Palin has been portrayed by the media. Even Shelly Mandell, head of LA chapter of National Organization for Women (NOW) endorses McCain-Palin. She has come out in defense of Sarah! You've just got to know that most women are really angry. Yes, you read that right. The head of Los Angeles chapter of NOW actually has endorsed the McCain/Palin ticket. I wonder how much of the MSM is telling us about that?

Once again, don't believe the polls or the pundits, and even half of what you may hear on Fox News. This thing ain't over yet folks. It's time to be positive, not negative. Who gives up a fight before it's even finished?

Huckabee and Joe the Plumber

In a hurry today. We're off to Temple on one of our monthly shopping trips. We live in the country so like most Redneck folks who "cling to our guns and religion because we're bitter", we don't shop often, but when we do we stock up.

But first I implore you to visit Indigo Red and read his post "Obama Taking Millions in Illegal Campaign Dollars". Indigo has some truly revealing information there, and like it says on the post, they got Al Capone by following the money, and it appears there are many people doing just that! Indigo, I want to personally give you Kudos for an outstanding post!

Sarah Palin on CNN and Verbal Internet Garbage

Sarah Palin was interviewed on CNN and I missed it, so I went to You Tube to see if I could find it. I couldn't find the entire interview, but I found this snippet of it:

Then I checked out the comments. when I was there, there were only two. The following one is from someone calling himself "Rudyc1". Please note the educated and polite way he expresses his point of view. (sarcasm).

"She's a total moron, she's dumber then that window licker child she had(or was it the spawn of her daughter). And Plumber Joe and Maverick Plumber Joe, Plumber Joe is a Maverick! I like her naming names and has no clue what their history or background really is. She's the ultimate moron."

My comment:

"Rudyc1, you should rename yourself. "Rude" would be far more fitting. It interests me that people like you cannot present your political point of view without attacking a person with verbal insults like "Total Moron." Total Morons do not get elected as Governors, but total morons do talk like you do, so you prove yourself to be exactly what you call Sarah Palin. You and people like you will never, ever be as smart as this woman is, or have even as much as a smidgen of her integrity."

People like "Rude" are what I detest about the internet. There are many advantages to having the internet, and it's wonderful that in this country everyone has a right to express their opinion - even in spite of the far left believing they're the only ones who have the right to free speech - but people with such tiny vocabluaries that they are unable to express their point of view without spewing hateful attacks make the internet just like the real world. Listening to that type of verbage makes me feel like I'm walking in a dark ally among drunks and dope-addicts, or as one of my commenters says, through a public High School. Here's another "oh-so-intelligent" comment left on Born Again Redneck's Blog. I don't normally allow this type of language, but it's a perfect example of what I mean, although I've cleaned it up a bit:

"What a miserable piece of shit you are. Why not put on your masthead. No f*ckin' Kaffer for presdient. Of course a racist will always bring out the 'black best friends'. F*CK YOU."

My apologies, but these are the sort of comments I often receive and I delete them. I know Patrick, who runs Born Again Redneck, and I know why he let it stand. He published it for the same reason I am publishing it. Because it shows a complete lack of any intellect whatsoever. Now, most of you know these sort of scumbags thrive on the internet, so you may ask why I'm bothering to point it out to you. It's because it's the reason I leave comment moderation on. I get four or five comments like the ones above almost every day and I cannot sit here on my pc all day long checking to see if any comments need to be deleted. I simply will not tolerate my commenters or myself to have to read such filth on a daily basis.

I've heard Bill O'Reilly say that there are just as many obnoxious conservative blogs out there as there are liberal blogs. It's simply not true. Yes, there are rude conservative bloggers and I've run into them myself, but I would be willing to bet money there are far more liberals who talk this type of trash than there are conservatives. I suppose they have never heard the expression that using profanity exposes your lack of vocabulary. If they have, they are ignoring it, thus also exposing their lack of intelligence. "Garbage in - garbage out" and when it comes here it gets thrown out!

Barack and Biden - Stranger and Stranger

About the title... why "Stranger and Stranger?" I'll explain. First, Barack Obama's grandmother "may be close to death" so Obama is going to cancel his campaign to visit her in Hawaii on Thursday and Friday.

From Fox News (emphasis is mine):

Democratic presidential nominee cancels nearly all campaign events Thursday and Friday to fly to Hawaii to visit his suddenly ill 85-year-old grandmother.

Citing the family's desire for privacy, Gibbs would not discuss the nature of Dunham's illness. It seemed likely that she was close to death, as Gibbs said that "everyone understands the decision that Sen. Obama is making." Dunham turns 86 on Sunday.

I find this strange because Obama's grandmother is 85 years old, and according to Gibbs, "It seemed likely that she was close to death", so why is Obama waiting until Thursday to go to Hawaii? If your grandmother was gravely ill and 85-years-old, would you wait around for three days (remember, Obama found out about this yesterday) before leaving to see her? Perhaps it's just me, but I find this odd.

Another thing I find odd is Biden saying this on the Campaign Trail in Henderson, NV:

Biden made the following remarks in Henderson, Nevada: "Mark my words. It will not be six months before the world tests Barack Obama like they did John Kennedy. The world is looking," Biden said.
"Remember I said it standing here. if you don't remember anything else I said. Watch, we're gonna have an international crisis, a generated crisis, to test the mettle of this guy. And he's gonna have to make some really tough -- I don't know what the decision's gonna be, but I promise you it will occur. As a student of history and having served with seven presidents, I guarantee you it's gonna happen," Biden continued.

Well, we already know that, but it's truly strange that Obama's pick for vice president would admit it publicly. I'd love to be a fly on the wall to hear what Obama and his campaign manager think about this one!

Every once in a great while my hubby, Walt, writes a post. This is one of those times - and although I stated in the last post I wouldn't publish again until Tuesday, I'll publish this, although comments will have to be held in moderation longer than usual:

Regarding the title, I’m just wondering, because nothing else makes sense to me. As a former member of the military service with twenty years in service and one war behind me, I’ve always regarded Colin Powell as one of my heroes. His brilliance and leadership during the first gulf war cannot be diminished by anyone - even those of us who cannot presently fathom the reason for his decision to endorse Barack Obama. I viewed part of his statements today where he personally said that he didn’t regard Obama’s economic plan as socialism and thought that McCain was wrong by bringing up Obama’s ties to Bill Ayers. If one of McCain’s best friends had been in the employ of the Sheik of Iran back when he was one of our anti-Soviet partners in our international policies, I believe the left would be using that fact day-after-day-after-day to attempt to prove McCain lacked good judgment.

Politics is a dirty business - we all know that. Everyone goes for the dirt of their opponents. That’s the way we discover who and what our opponents believe. There should be no exception to this rule, based upon gender, religious belief, or racial heritage. To exclude any one of these in a comprehensive analysis of the character and possible motivation of any candidate - especially for one going for the highest office on the face of the planet - is a disservice to each and every United States citizen.

Taking into account all of the questionable actions and affiliations of the candidate Barack Obama, I fail to understand why Mr. Colin Powell has chosen to endorse Obama. He says that McCain is a trusted friend of his. I wish I could say that I could regard Barack Obama as a trusted friend. There is no way that I can do that. Obama’s philosophies, programs and affiliations are those of a socialist reformer and judging by the actions of Herbert Hoover, Obama’s economic policies will only bring disaster upon our nation. Are we ready to become a third-world country? If Obama takes the helm, we’d better be!

A Gallup daily tracking poll out Friday shows Obama leading John McCain among registered voters 49-43 percent while an AP-Yahoo poll also released Friday show Obama's favorability at 57 percent compared to 52 percent for McCain.

More good news: I heard on Greta Van Susteren last night that our unrepentant terrorist, Bill Ayers, was scheduled to speak at the University of Nebraska but the people rose up. They actually threatened to remove their kids from the college if Ayers were allowed to speak there, and the Governor called the college and suggested the wise move would be to cancel Ayer's invitation, which was done last night. The governor said: “Bill Ayers is a well-known radical who should never have been invited,” Heineman said earlier Friday. “The people of Nebraska are outraged. This has gone beyond the University of Nebraska. It’s gotten to citizens all across this state, and they’re not happy because this is a public university.” The quote, and more information comes from here. The college claims Ayer's speech was cancelled due to safety reasons. I don't believe it and neither does the Governor, but like he said: “I’m not saying I’m buying into it either,” he said. “But the bigger issue is we wanted this event cancelled.” Gee! Parents actually paying attention! Can you imagine?

On You Tube this video is called "The Vote Reaper" but Timothy named it "Darth Obama Takes on a Commoner". I like that name for it better too.
